Blah. I didn't do very well today -

I didn't 'click' with the course until my 5th run of the day.. and by that time it was pouring. I still had a lot of fun, minus the stomach ache I have right now from eating McDonald's twice today, hahaha

My times were decent, for me. But I think I missed every apex cone except the one I hit on my fastest run. Results aren't up yet for our event but it will be interesting to see how Bonaccorssi did in the overall PAX. He won HS, but he thinks there was another second on course.

I just did my first autocross this weekend in my 06 Si!!!

I had participated in a couple while in school at Penn State in my old EP3.

I was on the stock all seasons which were total crap. However, I still beat my buddy in an '07 GTI!!! (Just a friendly competition we had.) I also got second in novice class, out of fifteen cars, about a second behind another rookie in a Miata with sticky tires.

My main concern with G Stock is the Mini Cooper S. That car is damn quick and turns on a dime (short wheelbase). For you veterans out there, is the Si as fast in capable hands as a Cooper S?

The Cooper S always wins, from what I hear.

NO!!! :) Sorry for the bummer but..Last year we campainged a 06 si with custom revalved Koni Double Adjustable Shocks and were still at MIN a second behind the top guys in coopers. There isn;t enough camber allowed out from and the rear end sticks too well.
We pretty much maxed the car 245's front 225's rear. Maxed the factory camber bolts and TOED the thing like a Mother ******. Still not enough, you arent in vtec enough to keep up with the superhcarged mini!!

Our event looked like a who's-who of the autocross community. I didn't do too badly considering I only took three runs (my little guy turned three so we had a bunch of family members and friends coming over the house). However, even if we didn't have the party, I would only have taken three runs anyway so that I could force myself to be fast from the start in preparation for the National events I'll be running shortly.

Considering the fact I shorthanded myself, being top 20 in PAX in an HS car amongst this group is no small feat. Had I taken all 6 runs, I know I would have found at least .5 ~ .7 seconds out there.

So, 12th in PRO, and 20th Overall out of 116.

I still have possession of 2nd in the Drivers Championship.

http://www.autox4u.com/2007results/2007paxnnjr.htm

NOW I want Koni's.

Now you know why Daddio is called "The Alien". He's not normal. Chris has alien tendencies, but no one is wired like Daddio.

Didn't you already have an S2000, Greg? And this Moton fixation, you really need some help with that.

The DA rear Konis are definitely the way to go. At this rate Tony, I would say call Koni and order up the rears like I have. By the time they are done, you might be able to get OTS yellows or FSDs for the front. I think that will be the hot set up for our cars. I don't think the DAs on the front will be necessary. I'm thinking that the Mini set up is closer to what we should all be running on our cars. The suspensions are similar and we both have the same front camber issue.

I haven't said this in the past, but here's my reason why I'm avoiding getting custom Koni's... When I had them (SPSS valved) on my 1993 Civic, 2 out of the 4 shocks blew seals within the first two events and a third within a season!!! When I had OTS Sports, I had them on for three full years without issue. Seat time is more important anyway.

For me, I'd prefer the "security" of a factory sealed unit over the marginally faster, but fragile custom setup. If it costs me a win in Devens or Romulus, then shame on me.

You're probably on to something. I too blew my rear shocks in the STS within a year. A lot of that came from us leaving the car strapped down to the trailer when we stored it, therefore, it was always under load. Greg has been driving around on the shocks on my car now for 9 months before I got them. So far, so good.

For all out, total National level competitiveness, I think rear DAs will be the required set up. For the local guy who wants to do some tours and pros, the yellows or FSDs will be quite sufficient. Again, look at the Minis. Per was quite happy with the FSDs on his car. So much so, he didn't always swap out to his rear DAs for most events.

While you may be right about DA's being "required" for the ultimate in time reduction, I too remember what Per had done on their personal HS MINI. More often than not, the DA's they had built sat around.

Koni may have spent some extra time making these due to the wait we had for them and we were very patient and polite about it :) I think we waited almost 6 months to get these made I think youll be fine with them Bigdog... Greg

You know I get my car back tomorrow, they replace both front shock and both front top hats, every time I turned the steering wheel you would hear this loud pop/clunk. I get to see exactly what they did tomorrow and will keep you updated this may be a new issue with the si's.
