Yup 12 out of 32 for me. I changed around my pressures so the back end would come around more- wow that was fun! I think I did 45 rear 42 fronts. fun fun!

It doesn't matter what you're driving when you're a beginner. Just show up to a local event and be ready to learn and be humbled all in the same day.

I took 1st in GS and 20th on index at the Milwaukee event. I left time out there too. I just wasn't focused enough as I had a headache putting the event on. The index showing was not bad. Almost everyone in front of me and a few behind me have taken National trophies home before.

It was not a great course for the car too. Plus, it was the first time on Hoosiers (which really helped the car and suit my style a lot better). We will only get about 25 runs total out of these front Hoosiers though before they get switched to rears.

Try to make it up here for the Memorial Day weekend TSSCC and SCCA-Milw events. Mike and I are designing courses for both days, and they should be rather VTEC friendly

Hrm...so does that mean my 17x8s put me into the next class because the OEMs are 17x7?

Crea must not teach elementary school with patience like that!

Yes, 17x8's with street tires (140+ treadwear) land you in STX (up to and including a 245-width tire, anything wider, puts you in STU). 17x8's with R-compounds (DOT approved, but less than a 140 treadwear) land you in DSP (regardless of tire width).

I'm running GS at the next RT 66 event. My aftermarket wheels are the same size a stock, but have a 43 offset. Stock offset is 45 so 43 fits within the rules for GS.

What class this S-GS

Thanks for the help!

Dan

Calm down Skippy. We are helpful to each otrher on this thread... But I couldn't make it any clearer than that, and you still questioned it again.

130R, you're right, I don't teach elementary school. I have the big ones in high school.

I expect these kinds of redundant questions at work, but not in the world of adulthood. Sorry.

I was running a eagle talon TSi in STX. What tire pressures do you run? I was running 43/38 in the talon, but it is AWD. How bad do these car understeer?

I think you were next to me in the Learning Curve on Sunday. Is your Talon green?

I was running 38 front/42 rear I think. And yeah, you'll get some understeer

I am sorry if I wanted confirmation before I sold my stock rims.

Maybe there was some subset of the rules that said the rims don't matter if you have the stock tires on them? I mean, why would 17x8 matter vs 17x7 if I still have the 215/45's on them?

WTF do I know, I just asked a question and you were a responded like a...never mind, not worth it.

If this is typical attitude of the people who autox then I think I will stay away.

Actually, a lot! A 17x8 will stretch a tire better than a 17x7. They usually transition better and make the tire more square. All of the top cars in non-stock classes use the widest wheel possible to stretch their tires out. I have seen 205/50-15's on 15x8's and 225/45-15's on 15x9.5's, etc, etc, etc. As someone that has driven the same car and tire, but on both a 16x6.5 and 16x7.5, it made a huge difference!

Its not.

Unfourtnatly, it is the typical attitude of internet forums though. Most autocrossers are very nice people and always willing to give a helping hand. It is a sport where the entrants are responsible for putting on the events. The event chairmen/chiefs are not paid for what they do, they do it so we can have events. In that type of environment, you get a lot of willing and nice people.

Thanks 130R

You have renewed my faith in the internet today.

Kurt...well, sorry if my posting has caused you pain. I assure it is nowhere near the pain I am feeling knowing that my $1200 rims are forcing me into a class I cannot compete in.
