nice 1/4 mile speed/hp calculator. Check this out

The VERY handy multi-function Quarter Mile Acceleration Calculator posted on the web-cars.com website. Here's the link

very neat....but also very inacurate. There's more to calculating 1/4 than just horsepower/weight/and drivetrain

There's:

-Horsepower
-Torque
-Weight
-Gear Ratios
-Traction
-Tempurature
-Humidity
-Driver skill

to take into consideration. But it's still a nice lil' tool to get an idea of what you could run

this thing is way off. I run a 15.9 and they say 17.59. Cool idea, but inaccurate.

That is a little mixed up. What I have been told over the years is to MAKE more HP , you can take the total weight of the car and divide it by the HP (rough to figure unless you dyno) and that will give you the weight needed to reduce to gain 1 HP. Basic weight reductions.

EX. civic si wieghs 3000 lbs and it makes 198 HP. (rough example, don't forget to include driver's wieght.)
divide the 3000 by 198 and you get 15.1516

So it takes roughly 15 lbs to make 1 HP by using wieght reductions.

Usually the spare, jack, back seats are gone. Easy to replace after the track.
You could also get serious reductions, A/C system, panels, carpet,on and on.

Hope that helps.

Taking a dump before the race is a definate stage 2 reduction! lol!!!!!!

So in order to make 1 HP by dropping wieght

And a little thing called Drag coefficient. For example if it takes a '91 Crx 600hp to get down the track in 10 seconds, it would only take an Insight 400hp to achive the same feat.
