If you don't know how to tune your suspension, of course you're going to make the car handle worse than the Stock Si which was factory tuned by engineers. You can take $6,000 triple adjuster Motons and have the car handle worse than stock if its not set up correctly.
I had the ss for a year at all different heights and damping rates and I can guarantee its not the setup, the ss are just that bad.

Its anyware from $50-200 for a open track day... The spring rates on the tein stuff are just way to soft..The valving in not that bad but a soft spring and to little rebound makes for a not so fun ride on the track but a nice ride on the street.. Rember The only job of a spring is to hold up the car.. its the shocks job stop the bounce.. Almost all the lowering springs are to soft in the rear. But in a whole the 8th gen car needs alot of spring rate.. Its heavy and the spring people just dont see it for some reason..

i know Sirbelch hates this tein flex, but is it REALLY that bad? i have never auto X my car yet, but have tracked it 2x, and i'm happy with stock set up but the car leans a lot on hairpins, so i'm looking for a suspension to help reduce that and mainly lower the car for a better look. my friend has the same car (Si) with flex, and he gave me a ride on the same track. i didn't notice any wobble or other things that ppl have mentioned. all i felt was the car has a lot less lean. may be he's not putting it as hard as u?

i guess the my question is, IF u need a coilover (mainly for height adjustment for winter/summer driving), a 90% daily driver car, 10% track day. what r my other options besides the tein basic/ss/flex, buddy club, and megan? i just want something that isn't too hardcore yet have some fun on the track. is koni yellow set up isn't height adjustable right?

thx 4 help guys!

If you can wait until the koni sports come out and pair those with ground control springs that should do it. Or you can get a custom setup from Redshift. The flex's just don't have the adjustability to get the most out of the suspension.

ground control springs are height adjustable. The have a threaded sleeve that slides over the damper to give you height adjustment. The konis should be out by then, but they were supposed to be out last summer.
Redshift is a site sponsor. You could go through this site to theirs. If you reallyy want their kit you are gonna have to call them up. Price depends on what you get. Thats what makes it custom. You get what you want/can afford. At this time, the redshift site is under some construction.

Bad news for you GS Si owners... The MINI Cooper S is staying in GS, at least until 2009. Sorry, but it's listed in the December FastTrack which is the official SCCA rules and ruling update "newsletter" if you will.

I'm sorry, but I own and LX AND an SI so I think my view on the cars are a tad bit better than yours. The LX is a very sloppy car - I can take turns at nearly double the speed in my SI than I could in my LX and still feel very stable. The LX has massive roll and feels very sloppy all around.

I'm also curious, WHY can't you be in the upper revs on the auto-x? What does having an auto-x track have to do with keeping the revs low? You must get an awful time in your LX if you're farting around on the track at 2k-4k rpms.
Greg, Curt, Sirbelch... Anyone care to handle this for me, or should I just do the honors?

The reason behind why the LX is such a better car is because it is ACUTALLY competitive in its class where as the SI gets abused by the Mini cooper.

Overall handling the cars are basically the same...with the modifications allowed in Stock.

As for power the LX makes more or the same TQ compared to the SI so it is almost as fast just cause in an AUTOX you can't sit in the Vtec range you are below it alot.

If I had your resources (allowing for a dedicated autocross/track toy), I'd do any of the following...

SS: Used Elise (Under $30,000... apparently, the cars lack of usefulness as a daily driver makes the thing depreciate like a Plymouth!)

AS: S2000CR (In black to hide that retarded body kit, but the suspension upgrades are amazing.)

CS: Miata MS-R or Solstice Z0K (Both sides are playing hardball with factory built club-racers/autocrossers. Best part is, both are under $25,000. This may be my route when I get a principals job.

I hear ya... I hope the car depreciates like a Cavalier. I'd LOVE to pay $12,000 for one in like two or three years when they start coming off lease.

As much as I love GMs (and that is alot) it will happen. That's one of the reasons why I'm not buying a new Camaro when they come out. I'll wait and pick up a demo or something.

Greg,

Perry was right. Stock is about the driver. If you think about it for a moment, most of your big names in the SCCA are known because of their performances in Stock... The limit on car prep makes it more about the driver than anything else and that is what draws me to it now and for the future... I wish I had seen this earlier in my autocross "career", but oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.

I can't EVER see myself modifying a car beyond Stock again so that's my basis on my choices.

As much as I love HS, I also would like to do the RWD roadster thing. But then again, I love being the underdog, so I'll probably stick with the Civic for a long time (even though I almost made a huge mistake when I almost jumped ship to a Mazda3 back in September.
