cobalt ss drag videos

im making this as a reaction to the si VS ss thread, its not to prove any points, its just being added give a basis of judgement. this way peopel can decide what they think about the ss/sc baised off of truth and not "i know a guy who knew a guy that raced one" i would like to encourage other LSJ powerd vehicles to also post up some videos with info on the car, the track, and weather.

some things to know about the vids,
the track is orlando spin..uhr speed world. the track is like glass.
and its in FL. were theres high humidity even when its cold.and the track is at sea level

some things to know about the car:
2006 ss/sc ,GMPP stage 2 $550 (smaller pully 45.5lb injectors and GM tune) axle back flowmaster $120, and cut airbox with a k&N $60 ingalls stiffy $120(<--wasted) zzp solid mototr mounts $60 (best money spent next to stage 2 )

the first 2 vids are the best runs, it was winter about 65 degrees out and the track was preped for fundaysunday , and it was sticky for the first time. i didnt lanch on thies runs, becasue i didnt want to break anything ...again..
and excuse my fiancee, she just happy that i broke 100mph trap, i was getting pissed becasue i kept traping 99-98 the past few weeks.

this vid i love the most , i love watching that r32 dump the clutch at 6k and ripping off the line , the track.cobalt ss vs ...ok getting handed by a r32 golf cobalt 14.2@101 with a 2.282 60' r32 13.09 @103 with a 1.629 60' (gotta love awd...) my lane says 19.2 becasue the bord was messed up.

cobalt ss with stage 2 vs sohc tubo civic cobalt 14.3 @ 102 with a 2.366 60"civic 14.7@97 with a 2.4260 "

and this is just to show how much the track sucks when its not preped
cobalt ss with gm stage2 runs 14.5@100mph , i had to lift twice to keep from wheelhopping and spinning (more)

and this is just to show what hot weather is like ,
incar cam test, just a rig i made that attatches to the head rest post to hold a camra....the run was a 14.4 @99.9 mph with a 2.38 60foot, wasnt to bad since it was about 91 with 78% humiddity

cobalt ss vs evo with a bad driver.and be for you post, i know stage 2 cobalts should be in the hight 13s, but you need to rember that this is in FL in summer , it was in the 90s and the humidty was high enough to swim thro the air...

and just for shiggles ... me snaping an axle ...it was mostly my falt, i had just got the car , and have been trying to lanch like that all night , i didnt know that the wheelhop was that bad on this car. iv had noproblems since this happend tho...
cobalt ss dies at the track

pics from my buddy at the dealership, he got it fixed for me on gms dime.lol

by this winter i hope to have sticky tires and traction bars, then maybe i can see some 13 sec passes.

Do you slip your clutch on the launch or dump it? I get nasty wheelhop sometimes even if I slip and especially on the 1-2 shift I get about 2 sec of wheelhop as well.

when i broke the axle , i was trying to slip it , but i couldnt get it right, now iv got it down i just need better tires to get my 60 down more. plus the first time i didnt have solid motor mounts , so the mounts help alot to get rid of hop

Is that your stock exhaust rattling/rasping like that on the first interior view vid? That would annoy the piss out of me!

Though I would comment on this...

I have an 05 Cobalt SS With
- Stage 2, then smaller s/c pulley making 17.5lbs boost
- Injen Intake
- Ingals ETD
- 1 Step Cold Plugs
- Corsa Sport Exhaust
- Simple torque management removal tune

Without the exhaust I bested a 13.8 @ 104.5 w/ a 2.29 60'

I have the slip somewhere if you want to see it...
With the exhaust and more practice I would honestly expect to run a solid 13.6 which is pretty common for my same setup.

However, that may never happen as I am in legal preceedings regaurding getting rid of the car... its been in the shop over 25 times and so many different issues.

Which is why I am here... I have been lurking the 07+ civic si sedan and the 5door gti...

I dunno what I would choose honestly...

I test drove an 07 si sedan and loved it, absolutely loved it. The ext and int were amazing and the power was pretty decent too...

I have yet to test the GTI but I also love the fit and finish of the gti as well...

However the two big strikes on the GTI, are the price and crappy sound system... these two things are where the si kills its. Almost 2-3k cheaper when comparbly equipped and the SI has a kicking sound system.

I can't believe your still in third when you go through the traps! Talk about long gearing.

Yea 3rd tops out at about 105... 2nd at 68 and 1st at around 35...

That is with the stage two flash hitting 7k rpm.

The gearing works pretty well. I am making 15lbs at about 3000 rpms... and 17lbs before 5500rpms... So I am almost always making a good deal of power.

The only thing that sucks (besides the quality) is doing 80 your at 3k in 5th gear... a 6th o/d gear would make it a lot better.

yep, cobalt ss strong gears are second and third.... but with gm stage 2, it should run 13.7ish cause my friend with his bone stock cobalt SS ran a 14.2 plus, cobalt are probably one of the hardest car to drive/launch if you're a noob ><

So how do you SS/SC owners think you would fair against a Comptech S/C Si putting down 230 whp give or take.

I thought I read somewhere that the SS/SC Stage 2's are putting down somehwere in the 280 whp range (I could be very wrong on this). If that's the case, even a SC'ed Si would have trouble with those kind of numbers.

Although I do recall an SC'ed Si here running I want to say 13.1 or something along those lines at 105 mph. That's pretty good.

Well it seems to me from the videos that the ss spins so much with the stage 2 that an s/c si would easily beat it.

That sounds more like the Stage3 kit. Stage 2 is in the 230-250 range if I remember correctly.

http://www.motortrend.com/av/roadtes...two_road_test/

according to this video the stage 2 is 241 hp. and i assume thats at the crank so wheel hp would be lower.

So i definitely think a 230ish whp SC Si would definitly be a good match if those # are true.

the ss/sc is underrated , so its colser to 241-245whp.
iv wonderd the same thing. i think the comptec si would win, iv seen si's run clsoe to the cobalts in na form , i would think with the supercharger it would leve me looking at taillights. its a race id like to see , would probly be clsose if traction wasnt an issue.

the si's short gearing maybe a strong point or weak point. nice long gears are great for FI, less time shifting more time makeing power...but at the same time the eaton dosnt need any spool time.

BTW... I have ALOT less invested and i make stage 2 cobalts look pretty bad , im at 6200' above sea level and with just a pulley upgrade (no, nothing else) i ran a 14.6 @ 100mph in 80 degree weather and 87% humidity... now... lol, i havent ran it yet but ive ran an intense staged cobalt ss and a GM stage 2 cobalt ss, the intense hung a little better but both got waxed... especialy the stage 2 balt... his mods are: GM stage 2, CAI, magnaflow muffler... my mods are: HP Tuners Custom Tune, ZZP 2.8" pulley and Modular Hub, Lucas 42.5# injectors CAI, BFG 225/45/ZR17 KDW's...

Like Phat said... LSJ's are severely underrated, if the sticker says 205hp it really means an average dyno of 210-220whp in stock trim... Gm stage 2 sets you right around 240WHP give or take a few depending on conditions the day of the dyno and altitude.
