07 FA5 vs 98 Grand Prix GTP

Ok, My dad's got a 98 GTP which he thinks is god. We were talkin round the dinner table one day and we start talking about our cars. He then mentions that he'd destroy me. I told him to put his money where is mouth is, and now he said he'd actually like to run me sometime...lolz.

So here's the question, I know his car has some pretty good torque in there, and, having driven it before, i know it's definately not slow. But was just wondering what it would be?

I think it would be a driver's race IMHO...

It will depend on how you are on the stick because GTPs aren;t manual.

Just race him.

I wonder what kind of bet you can agree before the race

1) Wash the winner's car for 6 months
2) Take care of the lawn
3) Take out the trash for one year
4) Move to granny's house
5) Money

If it's the one with the S/C then I think you will lose. Even the regular GT V6 makes 230ft/lbs of torque. Yes the Grand Prix is heavier but your dad's car is making at least 100 more ft/lbs of torque.

it is the supercharged one...although, recently, i pointed out to him that theres a problem with his because his boost gauge doesn't show full boost, i don't think he's getting the full amount.

You can lower the pressure in both front tires to increase the rolling resistance.

Be sure that you obtain and keep on hand a rape kit for when this happens...the GTP will do an Si like a prision rape scene. No way you have a chance, even if the GTP is a turd and dad can't drive would you have any hope of beating a GTP.

As if.

I've raced my buddies 05 gtp from a roll and from a dig and beat him both times. from a 2nd gear roll I killed him. from a dig he pulled then i passed him when shifting into third. those things spin hard core off the line since they have so much torque. Only thing you can do is go try it. Oh yeah all my runs were done on a closed course

98 gtp's should run 15 flats in the quarter so you better be a good driver if you're stock.

Not really. I'd say drivers race. 15s flat quarter is right in our area.

I think you'll take him. Before getting the SI I test drove a supercharged grand prix (05 or 06 I beleive) and it wasn't all that quick on the highway. I expected more from it.

hmm this is a good question. I used to have a 95 GTP coupe, it was most definately faster then the SI, and it wasn't supercharged. I'd like to see this though just for sh*ts and giggles.

Pretty sure these things run mid-high 14s, they're not that fast. I'd say its a drivers race if you know how to drive.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t671825.html

And we would destroy a non supercharged 3800

I think the GP came out in coupe form up until 2002-2003. One of the main reasons why I didn't get another Grand Prix is because they don't come in 2 door anymore.

As for an SI beating at GTP I'd still like to see it.... My GTP was a 3.4 DOHC non supercharged and it could keep up with base V8 Mustangs. The Base 3.8 in the current cars puts out more power then the 3.4. And the supercharged 3.8 forget it. We need to keep in mind the SI is NOT a supercar its not even anywhere near the fastest car on the road, when comparing it to other "performance" cars its not even anywhere near the top of the low end list. I don't understand the mentality that the SI fastest vehicle. 9 out of 10 your gonna get spanked its still a civic. I own an SI and I understand this.. what is the problem with everyone else? This is gonna sound cold but I gotta say it. Its like a Cavalier or better yet a Cavalier Z24... they were quick for a cavalier but they still were Cavaliers. lol wait I just compared the SI to a Cavalier now we need to start having a Mugen Cavalier that would be pretty funny.
