Si on the track

A few photos of the Si at Willow Springs.

This was at a Redline Track Event. All and all, a great track car. It does need suspension, and about another 40hp, but that should be easy to get.

This was a stock car with 235/40/17 tires.

Anyone else track the Si?
I really haven't see many at the track, but would like to know what others have done to get a good track set up.

I've done about 5 track days with mine, and i LOVE it!!! the only upgrades i've done are Cobalt GT-Sport pads up front, ATE Superblue brake fluid, and some sticky street legal tires Bridgestone RE-01s (235/40/17). the car, engine and gear box are amazing! the only things i dont like are how you can really feel the weight transfer/roll, the difficulty of being able to properly heel-toe downshift due to the pedal set up, and the minimal negitive camber allowed with stock components.

Yes, the body roll is awful. The first thing I would really like to do is get a better suspension on that car. For the street, it's great, but it's very soft for the track.

I need a good quality coil over track set up.
I think once a good suspension is on the car, you'll not feel the weight or body roll at all. It's a pretty light car at only about 2800lbs so that's not a bad starting point at all for any car. Even the S2000 is about 2800lbs and it's feels much lighter then the Si just because of the suspension.

Anyone here use a "good" suspension on the track yet?
TEIN or KW or anything.

That is some massive body roll! Geez! Where do you live and where is this track? I'd like to go to a track day myself, but I'm not sure where one would be held. I live in Nashville, TN. I know Barber Raceway is in Alabama. On their schedule their are plenty of meets for Bimmers, and Porche's. Does anyone know of a track in the midsouth that has track days coming up soon?

the tape is to prevent a rock or debri from cracking the headlight...also bar296, you have problems heel-toeing? i think the pedals are set up perfect for that

There is only one event that I know of coming up in August at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Is Atlanta close enough to you, or is that to far away.

yeah, for some reason i just cant the feel of it in this car. i had no problems with my 98 coupe. I think its a combonation of the gas pedal being floor mounted and the electroinc throttle...

Well body roll is absoutly NO indication of how well your car will or can handle. I have been on the track with 245 R comp's, other than a little more camber up front, and a set of custom koni's the car rocks out on the track. I would suggest to stay away from ANY of the "pre-built" coilovers if your serious about handling and lap times.

I've already maxed out the stock set up. The body roll in the photo just shows how extreme it is, that's all. But, body roll or not, I've maxed out the travel in the stock set up. I'm looking for what people are doing for track use. Tell me more about the koni's you use. How are they custom? do you use the stock springs or do you use a higher spring rate. What about roll bars, do you have stock or something else.

Thanks for any info. I need more input from everyone who has done any suspension work. Good or bad, I need to get something going soon. Way to many track days coming up this summer!

I have Tein SS, progress sway bar in the back, and some camber all around. Went to Virginia Intl Raceway 3 weeks ago and the car was awsome. Really felt good on the turns and felt little body roll.

I was talking to a local (for Greater Vancouver anyways) mechanic who's got a good rep with the Scooby guys and has an STi that he tracks regularly and he swears by KW...of course Civic and a WRX are two completely different cars so it might not transfer over.
One interesting point he made was that KW was easier to deal with than TEIN for rebuilds. Apparently with TEIN the shocks need to go to California at least and for the high end ones to Japan at worst if you want them rebuilt, which can be expensive and time consuming.

i would suggest two sets of ingalls front camber kits which when maxed, will yield -2 camber. upgrade your brakes, race pads for track days, fluid and stainless steel lines. a rear progress sway bar will help u out a lot too.
