Thats what I do on my R18 Civic. Make sure your car is warmed up and make sure you warm up those tires.
Then line up, put the car in first gear, depress the clutch and hold it down there while at the same time you're holding down on the gas pedal a little so that the engine is reving around 3500 rpm, hold it at that rpm and when the light turns green drop the clutch and continue by flooring the gas pedal. While you are droping the clutch and slamming down on the gas pedal you will feel and hear what kind of traction you are getting. So you might have pretty descent traction and simply dump the clutch or you might feather it. Hope this helps.

Why would you want to heat up street tires?

what do you mean? Warm rubber gives better traction. I take my car for a spin around the block, do some turns and maybe a small burnout before the race and I get better traction off the line. (Toyo Proxies 4-225/40/18)

The compound on street tires do not react to heat as a drag radial or a slick would.

Works for me. Would anyone else like to give their input as well? Sure its better with drag tires, but I think if your car sat in the driveway, you warm up the engine and then right when you get out of the driveway you launch it, I believe that your tires will be cold and you will have less traction. Someone please tell me that they see it the sameway that I do.

Let me ask you this:
When you racing at the track with street tires do you go in the water box and then do a burn out then stage, or do you go around the water box with no burn out then stage??

Well I've never been to the track, but from what I've heard if your car is FWD you avoid the water box. I take it you are implying that cars with street tires avoid the water box and burnout.

Burning out with street tires is useless the compound is not made to take up that much heat. Instead of gaining traction you'll lose traction. Do research on it.

Just drive your car around the block, take some turns hard, brake whatever, just get them warm. Sure, you don't have to burnout. The only time I might look like I'm burning out is when I launch and loose some traction.

Okay i'll answer your question real quick, launch your car at about 4500 to 5500, once you pop the clutch DON'T slam the gas just play with it untill you grab in between 5500 to 7000rpms that way you can win your launch and perhaps the race if you shift right. you have lsd so that will help alot. just let your tires grab in first gear and you might beat him. DON'T spin out all of 1st to 2nd gear

theres no reason to heat up tires or use the water box on street tires. i do a quick burnout just to remove dirt/rocks but thats it.

I started laughing in a scared way when I read this... Then I thought he must have an Si. Then I read the last sentence... Damn launch like that, I'd think you are afraid for your life, like somone is trying to kill you and you are going all out. I find I have better traction when I launch between 3000 and 4000 rpm. Above that is too much, unless maybe you drive an Si. that can rev up to like 8000rpms.
