Racing from a roll

I know I am going to get flamed for this since I have no rep and very few posts. I do however read this site as if it were my job. I will start by saying I have a very lightly modded FA5 (HF Cat, Vibrant Exhaust, TWM SS, Injen CAI, Progress Sway). Now onto my point...

We should stop talking about racing from a roll. Frankly it doest count.

1. It totally ignores the ability to launch your car properly.
2. I don't know of many tracks that let you race from a roll.

I have a friend that puts it like this.

"Saying you won a race from a roll is like masturbating in the same room as someone else and saying you f*cked them."

wow....where to start. I agree that a true race is a dead stop, but most races will happen from a roll. That is the way it is.....sorry

Having raced alot I disagree with the arguement that roll starts are'nt racing. Here's the deal...even real racecars sometimes start from a roll so there must be something equalizing about it otherwise someone (raceteam)would cry about it being unfair. My next point is that what a race is depends on what you want to compare during a race. All things being the same a better driver will win a dead stop race(and more than likely a roll start too) but that is only if both cars are close in capabilities. You could never compare a tubbed out domestic on huge slicks to a FWD on all season tires as far as launch goes becasue no pro driver could reasonably make the FWD launch harder than the domestic(or any car with a traction advantage).I would say roll start races are like taking home the drunk girl at the bar..a moment of opportunity presents itself and you take it for what it is..in the case of the original subject...a race.

At least for me in prefer start from a roll to minimize the risk of hurting something in the drivetrain.

In Puerto Rico, every monday on at least two drag tracks, for a small fee ($5) the owners of the track allow racers to use them for street racing like events.

There is no 1/4 mile times, you just choose someone to race and how is going to be started from a start or from the role and that its.

This is a video of last monday in the track located in the northeast side of Puerto Rico.

I think that's the thing that gets me isn't so much racing from a roll (I just kind of wanted to share that quote because it's funny), but highway races I read about. I will read stuff similar to "I pull Sti's all the time" and let's face it no we don't. We drive a 197hp fwd car, don't get me wrong it is my second Si and I love it. The hardest thing about owning a Honda is trying to get out of the shadow of all the kids that think a Honda can beat anything.

That is quite possibly the worst analogy I've ever heard.. How do the two even compare to each other to make it an actual analogy?

If both cars agree to the raise and start side by side (3 honks, whatever), then yeah, it's a race.

Granted I might be biased because I can pull cars on the highway that I couldn't touch from a dig.

roll racing is the best racing out there!!!! lol j/k

roll racing is racing no matter what people say.if you have a high hp car and cant get traction on the street b/c of tires then a lower powered car would when everytime.now if they start from a roll where traction is not an issue then it is a fair race.

ex: 400whp cobra that runs 11.5 et's in the 1/4 at the track
and a 400whp in a civic hb that runs 11.3 et's in the 1/4 at the track both on slicks

now start from a dig on street tires on the street.who will win?hummm the cobra duhh. but now start from a roll at 5-20mph then it will be a much equal race and the resaults would be more accurete to what the track resaults would be.

Properly cited here ya go. This should settle this thread. If anyone should care to explain where it specifies "from a roll" or "from a dead start", please entertain me...

i would only race from a roll if you are trying to equalize things. ie, like a Evo MR. (now guys dont get all crzy but he wanted to see what his stock evo mr would do against my car, i wanted to see as well.) given that there's no way to out perform a awd evo from a dig... the only way to equalize a few things out was to go from a rolling start. ...back to the point being... that a race is a race if both parties say its a race! i cant believe this thread... its like a philosophy class! lol

simply put, a race is a race. the only factors that actually matter are the driver, car, and the course.
