06 Monte Carlo SS vs 07 SI Sedan
From 50mph up through 3rd gear i was holding him off. Even pulled on him a little, maybe he wasn’t trying all that hard. I spoke with the dood after and he's like "nice SI". I reply "Nice SS". So we start from a standstill, and he pulls me through 1st and 2nd about a car len, and 3rd and fourth didn’t look much more promising. So we gave the thumbs up and that was the end.
http://www.chevrolet.com/montecarlo/#montecarlo-ss 303HP, and a slugh box. I need an I/H/E/Hondata |

My buddy has a 06 monte carlo ss and me stock 07 si, when we raced it was about even... He got me about a car length from the launch due to my wheel spin, from there on out he didnt pull on me anymore, we shut down at 85mph.. He was certain that he would walk all over me.. Perhaps next time when I have better tires it will have a better outcome..

2nd to 3rd gear on a roll from like 40 to 80 he couldnt keep up, but from a digg through 1st and 2nd only he put a car on me, probably would of been better to go at it through 4 gears to see where we would be at.
Where we ran at wasnt to long of an area. |

Very true. After something like that though, it really makes me want to upgrade. Funny how to think i was somewhat overwhelmed by this SI's power cause it had so much more then my other 2. Now of course, its not fast enough! |

Aren't we once again comparing apples and oranges though?
2.0L I4 @ 197hp vs. 5.3L V8 @ 303hp. I know the Monte is definitely heavier but with more than 2 times the size engine...it should walk our tiny Si past the finish line. To know that the Si can at the very least hang with this thing...speaks volumes.

I think there really is nothing else to compare our SI to. so we catch our selves looking at under powered heavy weight crap that cost more and uses more gas. to our equally porportioned Si that beats or keeps up with only half or less the engine. |

Bang for the buck...hands down has to go to the Si. It's right at the magical 100hp per liter mark; it is good on gas considering the amount of power it does have and it handles really well.
Monte Carlo - big; heavy; expensive; gas hog; resale...yeah righ; doesn't win by much. Mazdaspeed 3 - more power, albeit turbo (super?) charged; decent on price; ok on gas; resale will not equal an Si in 5 years. Whips our butt on the track; loses in overall cost of ownership. Reliability is sketchy. Toyota - ummm...does Toyota even make a worthwhile car anymore; or are they still just making cars for the soccer mom and dad only? Mustang - big; heavy; real V8 power; gas hog; resale sketchy at best; dime-a-dozen. Evo - well...Evo is cool; fast; handles well; ok on gas; best competitor TCO-wise to the Si but still kind of boring - it is a hyped-up lancer; not cheap. VW GTI - turbo; ok on gas; known for some quality issues (electrical mostly) not quite as good as Si on TOC. Needs the turbo to be quick. Overall some of these cars are very nice cars and would look well in anyones driveway. I'm not hating on any of them...they are all nice. But, for me...my money and my weighing the options; nothing seems to make as much sense as the Si. I drove all of these cars and still bought the Si (and an EX for daily driving...but that's besides the point). The Si does not hand out huge defeat in any one area...but what it does do is score high in all areas. Something the other cars can't really claim. To me...the Si really is the best bang for the buck. TOC = Total Cost of Ownership (Gas, Repair, Maintenance, Fuel, Insurance, Etc...) |

I agree, at the price point and value (not to mention handling). Civic Si is the best in class. I always try to upgrade every few years, and I can't seem to stop buying the SI.
I can't see paying an extra 6k for a Monte Carlo SS. To each is their own though. However I think the next car has to be something different before i get my LIC suspended. |
