Civic SI vs Tiburon Gt

My friend just bought a 03 Tiburon Gt with 50,000kand keeps telling me how great it is. I can see it is better than his 91' Ford Torus with 160,000k. Any way i told him lets race to see whos car is faster but he dosent want to because he keeps telling me its a waste of time because he knows he will win. I am wondering if any one can comparet the cars with preformance and general opinion thanks.

lol tell him youll race for $50, then buy him dinner with the $50 you just won. also, shove some of it in his face and his dual exhaust on his whopping 160hp 6cyl.

what a great looking hyundai (they did a great job with it), then dropped the ball on performance.

Here's some specs on the 2003 Tibby V6 manual

Weight- 3015 lbs

HP- 170 @6000rpm

TQ- 181 lbs @4000rpm

The car weighs 136 lbs more than a 2006 SI coupe and the SI make 27 hp more, enjoy the win

Top of the line SE with the 6 speed manual goes for $21,995

Go to the 5 speed manual GT and it goes down to $19,295

The tib isnt a bad car check out newtiburon.com alot of good people there.I agree hyundia dropped the ball on the engine but the rest of the car is nice.there are a couple of those guys on that site pushing 300hp and one at 400hp so dont take one for granted if you meet up with a modded tib.

chance of a modded tib in the 300whp range i would say is very slim.

get him to race and record it then rub it in his face over and over again

I was actually considering buying one before I got the Si. They look nice, but I agree the engine is lacking.

Hmm V6 160 some odd hp against 197 hp i wonder what the outcome will be. I think he doesnt want to be embarassed thats why he doesnt want to race.

my g/f had a 03 v6

i miss it bad, it was such a cool car, just in the shop alot, transmission went at 30k and we babied it

all in all, i would love it if she bought another one

she only sold it cause she wanted a 4-door and i had sold the tiburon to her when i worked at a dealership for invoice, so she made a bit off of it

My brother has one, modded, has problems, can't break out of the 15's! any more questions? lol

In all the car isn't that bad, and it does seem a bit faster than recorded times.

Well I can give you a tried and tested answer.

Summary at the bottom

I used to have an 03 Tib - you can find me and it on newtiburon.com under 'CUPRA'. I had a Stage 1 Alpine Supercharger on it, Injen CAI, lowered, wheels, paint, interior mods etc. I loved that car, and it was once Car of the month on Newtib. Great car, but you are right, it lacks in power.

I now have 2 Si's and am still involved on Newtib.com. Went to a meet last June with the Tib guys and I took the Si.

We were at Waco Raceway, an 1/8th mile drag strip. All day long I beat the Tibs, and even the SC'd tibs struggled to keep up. I got beat once by a Tib with a Stage 2 Alpine SC on it, and that was by about 1/2 a car length. He was running right at 300whp.

And to reply to '300 whp is slim' - it's not that slim.
I know all the guys in North Texas who had Alpine superchargers, even the prototype Supercharger. They are running 330whp and 315whp respectively.

Then there is my good buddy DJ, 'TROJAN' on newtib.com. He has (had) a RIPP Supercharger on his and a rebuilt motor. He had 500whp in his. His car was featured predominanly in various car magazines.

SUMMARY:
I have respect for the Tibs, wish they had more power, but would still have mine if it hadn't Hydrolocked.

The Si's will walk on them all day long.
