I've been noticing the AutoX thread lately and just noticed there was no official Track / HPDE threads, mostly threads from MikeJ that get a lot of attention. So I think this should be the official Track / HPDE talk and chat thread.
I'll attempt to post up any links I find here that relate to this thread so they're easily found.
Name: Alex
Cars: 2009 Civic Si (Just a progress sway bar on it), 1998 BMW M3 Sedan (Track Rat)
Info: This will be my second track season and will be my first with the Civic, last year I had the pleasure to drive at New Hampshire International Speedway, and Watkins Glen, in a number of different e36's.
Going down to Atlanta Motorsports Park in a few weeks to run my 08 fg2 in a two day HPDE. I'll update you all with some vids when I get back. Brand new track!!
i put 225/45 federals 595ss on x8 and it sits flush and i also put 235/40 on my fronts that are also x8 and they poke over the rim a tad. it looks good and wonder how they'll handle.
quick question for people with x9 in the fronts.
How much camber do you run fronts to fit 255/40 and offset of wheels
i want to run 17x9+35 with 255/40 but wonder if i need to bend my fender tabs. with about -2.5 camber front. i hope these will clear.
Is anybody getting a creaking sound from their front suspension after installing the camber bolts? I hear it when turning the wheels and low speeds. It becomes more of a bang than a creek if the car isn't moving.
I have the same problem, but I think it's my spring moving. I heard the sound right after I changed my suspension. It creaks when I turn the wheel in any direction, if it is the steering rack do I take it to dealership?
Anybody have problem running x8+35 in the rear with 234/40?
I rolled my fenders, and I rub against the bumper screw when suspension is full compressed (turn in driveways and hard turns)
I have a few washers where the fender bolts onto the chassis to give me some extra clearance. I'm running +17 to clear my Brembo calipers lol
I'll try to get some pictures later when I have time of the setup. I don't know how much I'm dropped, but I'm about one finger or so all the way around.
What would be my best option if I wanna run RS-3's on my 17x9 +22 rpf1s? They only come in either 225/45 or 245/40. Was thinking the 245 would be better but Im not sure.
so 255 or 245 on a 17x9+22 in the fronts should be able to clear no problems? with anywhere around -3 camber or more (depending on height)
i just want to get x9 in the fronts without having to bend the tabs, i already lost the clip that holds the fender liner in the middle right above the center of the wheel, my advans took them out some how (running x8.5 +31 235/40 No Camber at the time) lol
I don't think 1.5 will be able to clear, but I don't know I haven't tried, but it depends on your ride height as well. I'm sure it will be able to clear coilover strut not sure if you use oem. -3 kills tires for DD lol
x9 +35 with 255's is do-able, but you're cutting it close to the strut.
Camber doesn't kill tires, toe does. Camber just causes uneven wear, but if you drive hard enough where you use the -3 camber, then it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
With major camber wear on one side, say you run staggered, and cannot rotate, you go thought tires very quickly. It wouldn't kill I guess I used the wrong term but you go through tires defiantly faster.
You'll go through front tires faster but if you think about it it'd be like for every 2 pairs of front you buy a set of rear rather than front and rear at the same time. Or so I see it that way.
If you're worried about tire wear with that much camber, use stock wheels for dd without much camber then buy a set of dedicated wheels and adjust camber while you switch wheels. You can align the camber on both sides with a level, or even a leveling app on the iPhone. As long as you don't touch the tie rods you should be fine for toe, from what I believe. I'm not sure about faster, but I don't even think faster is adjustable on these cars anyways.
You won't see camber wear with dedicated track wheels obviously because you want the tire to be flat/on its maximum contact patch during a corner anyways, although perfectly level isn't attainable during all corners and changes within a corner, but you know what I mean.
