I've been noticing the AutoX thread lately and just noticed there was no official Track / HPDE threads, mostly threads from MikeJ that get a lot of attention. So I think this should be the official Track / HPDE talk and chat thread.

I'll attempt to post up any links I find here that relate to this thread so they're easily found.

Good Thread with a little chat and good recommendations.

Next I'll give a little info about myself and it would be cool if we could copy the AutoX thread and get little introductions on people.

Name: Alex
Cars: 2009 Civic Si (Just a progress sway bar on it), 1998 BMW M3 Sedan (Track Rat)
Info: This will be my second track season and will be my first with the Civic, last year I had the pleasure to drive at New Hampshire International Speedway, and Watkins Glen, in a number of different e36's.

So who are the other track rats on the forum?

CART is pretty strict - they check every event and are unlikely to cut you any slack for a track day. But there is often (but not always) a guy selling helmets at CART events. Can't recall if he attends track days or not. Can't really share either since so many people are on the track at the same time... good luck!

Kinda doubt if that is gonna work - here's the CART track day rule on helmets:

HELMETS: Helmets are required (sorry no loaners). Every helmet must have Snell M or SA rating and proof of being manufactured within the last 10 years. Helmets must be in good condition (no cracks)

Here's Snell's take on their standards vs. DOT. Snell Foundation - Motorcycle Standards Comparison Snell vs DOT

So I can't see a dirtbike helmet passing, sorry! Might do better to return it now and move up to a Snell rated one.

Dude I don't mean to crap on you but you're from to New England, get your ass up to HMS in MA and buy a good helmet, we get this all the time on the bimmerforums somebody wants to skimp on safety but doesn't want to die. A dirt bike helmet won't do squat for you at 100mph into a barrier. It's the one investment you really should never consider skipping on. I know a guy who BARELY walked away from a crash at Watkins Glen a year ago he managed with 3 broken ribs want to know how? Because he dropped 3k on a custom seat that would withstand crazy impacts, and a full cage without those he'd be toast. I didn't see him skimping on a helmet either. I'm not trying to be mean or rude I'm just trying to help you out.

The price of a GREAT helmet is the price of 1 HPDE skip it and get the right stuff you won't be sorry if something happens. 200$ for a helmet is cheaper than a life of misery or death. Again the chances of this happening are slim but do you want to take the chance? And does anybody want to fill out the paper work?

I forgot to mention that the DTC-60s are just as loud my HP+ were. I'm still on them from Saturday (haven't had a lick of daylight yet to swap) and they are very tolerable. though I wouldn't recommend it as they are a waste for street driving.

Hot day - 93+ deg F and humid at Lime Rock. Melting tires, blown motors, sweating drivings. Love it!

Me and tt3sheppard coming to the front straight.

Me trying to outrun an M3 for about 5 laps but he reeled me in eventually. I'm still not aggressive enough in the turns... but we passed several others during our little battle.

I tailed an Evo 8 for a few laps as well, and afterwards he came by to figure out how I could keep up with him on the straights. :shadyhat:

Funny that I'm faster when keeping up with a better driver than I am during solo time trials. Gotta get a better feel for handling the car near the limits I guess.
