I've been noticing the AutoX thread lately and just noticed there was no official Track / HPDE threads, mostly threads from MikeJ that get a lot of attention. So I think this should be the official Track / HPDE talk and chat thread.

I'll attempt to post up any links I find here that relate to this thread so they're easily found.

Good Thread with a little chat and good recommendations.

Next I'll give a little info about myself and it would be cool if we could copy the AutoX thread and get little introductions on people.

Name: Alex
Cars: 2009 Civic Si (Just a progress sway bar on it), 1998 BMW M3 Sedan (Track Rat)
Info: This will be my second track season and will be my first with the Civic, last year I had the pleasure to drive at New Hampshire International Speedway, and Watkins Glen, in a number of different e36's.

So who are the other track rats on the forum?

Hey guys, anyone using any sort of racing harness supplement with your stock seats/seat belt?

I saw one that looked like it added two points (one over each shoulder) and hooked into the rear child seat latch connectors, and another simple device that locked the stock 3pt shoulder harness in place to however tight you wanted it.

Not quite ready for the racing seats just yet, so suggestions welcome.

I tilt the seat way back and then yank the seatbelt so the intertia lock locks it up right about where I sit, then I tilt back up into the belt and it stays locked. But you have to come up really tight into it and make sure you lock it at about the right point to begin with. It helps A LOT, so easy to use brake and shift during corners

What i usually do is scoot the seat back a couple of inches, yank on the seatbelt to lock it, and then scoot the seat back up. Works great.
My friend has the one that locks the stock 3pt harness up tight, never actually used it on the track but it seems okay? not sure thought
Thanks guys - EVO Phase 1 autox school tomorrow so needed some ideas, this helps. I might also mess around with a seatbelt tensioner locking device that came with the kid's child seats and see what works best.

I am mad! lol

Okay so decided not to do neuspeed bc I really want to be able to run whatever camber and offset I want with 245's so HFP it is. Now the question is buy the super cheap coupe set on ebay for 350-400 or get a sedan set for 612 from college hills?

Whichever I get will have LCA bushings, front and rear ingalls camber, and progress RSB

I'm thinking -2.0 all around with 245 RS3

What size rims will you be running the 245 on? Even with a stiff side wall the car will siffer from late turn in and a bit of roll with stock rims. You'll want atleast an 8" if not 8.5" rim to run to make up for it.

Also the HFP is nice but the adjustability of the koni's will allow you to do a better job at fine tuning your suspension for better turn in which would make stickier / larger tires more useful.

I know you post a lot in the track section but how many autoX / HPDE events have you done with the civi?

Idk yet at least an 8" whatever I can find for cheap when I need them, which isn't right now. I'd run 235's on stock if i was in GS for autocross but HFP will bump me to STX

Very true, but I'm not racing really competitively so I mean very close to koni performance is fine with me

Only one autox so far and a lot of go karting! lol

Okay here's my advice, you can be VERY competitive in G-stock with a civic SI, I ran mine in G-stock this year in STL with stock all-seasons and kept up pretty well with another kid who was on summers and was very close behind some genesis coupes.

You may want to hold off on suspension for now till you figure out what you want from the car and you'll need a couple more AutoX's to figure that out.

The first thing that will make you much faster is practice. I'm sure a lot of karting skills will transfer over but only so much the civic is a whole different beast.

Next will be tires, the stock tires are great for DD and the occasional sprinted run but only last so long. You should do tires and wheels before you do suspension. If you have the cash to buy a whole new set of wheels you may want to look around CL for some older cheap Acura rims, type-s rims are pretty good looking, not the lightest thing but will be cheap and I think are 8" wide.

Throw a set of 245-40-17 star specs on them and you will be eating the competition.

Suspension will help you with time but probably will not be worth the bump in class, you may get left behind.

They're probably heavy but if I can find them cheap it's worth it for the width. Depends on what else I can find for cheap. I like the konig feathers but the widest they make them is 17.5, which would work not so well with 235 and I wouldnt put a 245 on that.

18 lbs I think is around the 17x7 rsx type S, or wait those might be 16 lbs

I'm hesitant because of that, there's stuff I need to get over cleanly like speedbumps and a few dips here and there. Plus, I don't want to roll my fenders. So, if I go with koni it will be with redshift or ground control, but HFP is so appealing because it's so easy and cheap.

Guys need some help, my autoX / summer tires are down to the bars, (Nitton NT-05 225/40/18) I need something replace them with and looking to keep the budget down (I have a bent coil over on the M3 to deal with).

Looking for a tire under 150 a pop, something sticky with a nice side wall, was think of trying the HTR Z III but just not sure.... It's cheap and has not bad reviews....

You could always try the Hankook V12 Evo:

Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

Probably not the best tire by a long shot (not an extreme summer tire like the NT05's), but they're budget friendly (plus there's currently $80 gift card from hankook + $30 rebate from discounttire if you sign-up/use a Carcareone card). I have those tires on my car, but I don't track/autocross so can't add much to that conversation.
