close to 13s. need pointers.
Went to the track tonight and got two passes and the second run i was wheel hopping so bad i thought my engine was gonna jump out. ive been driving stick for 2 months and this is my 7th time ever launching a car.
![]() MODS: Injen CAI Greddy EVO2 (60mm) Skunk2 alpha header Hasport 70a rear mount hondata (running a basemap) tein springs no spare tire rev limit: 8400 launch: 3000 street tires: 27psi had 5 bars of fuel i have terrible wheel hop. how much difference will boomba solid motor mounts make? what tire pressure should i run? and will a 70mm exhaust/pullies and tune really make a difference in my time? really trying to hit a 13.8 or 13.9 Last edited by HITvPASTu; 12-29-2011 at 02:16 AM. |

first i need to get motor mounts i think because i cant launch without horrible wheel hop then ill get a tune. but should i get a 70mm or 3" exhaust? will it be a noticeable difference from my 60mm?

forgot to mention i have a em1 cmc. and i know the 3" and 70mm exhausts make more power up top but loose a little torque down low. to improve my 1/4 time do i need torque or top end is what im trying figure out...
couldnt launch higher. i was wheel hopping so bad im surprised i didnt break anything at 3k rpm |

Launching @ higher rpm will give more spin instead of wheel hop and on street tires that is what you want. Instead of slipping your clutch and ruining that, try feathering the throttle until you gain traction. With bolt ons and a tweaked base map tune I ran 13.9 @ 102mph. Launched between 4000-4500rpm and no power shifting. Your 2.2 60' looks good, you may be able to pull a 2.1, which will equate to 0.200 off your time and put you at a 14.0. So that being said, I would look for a little more power up top to carry you through the finish.
Since you're all motor, personally I would go 70mm to not take away so much torque down low, but give you a nice mid and high rpm range gain. Boomba mounts are nice, but wont take away all wheel hop at the track. It eliminates it on the street, but usually not at the track. Tune helps out so much with drivability and may give you a few extra hp's as well. These 3 things alone wont shoot you down into the 13's, but with more practice and a good launch you can definitely meet your goal. Some people dont agree with it but depending on how badly you want to hit your goal, spend a few hours before going to the track and take out your seats and speakers. For every 100lbs you take out of the car it takes 0.100 off your 1/4 time. Also, idk how much of a burnout you do, but street tires dont need a "burnout". A nice 2-3 seconds of spinning is plenty to get the tires warmed up and knock the rocks off. Over all it sounds like you are getting good grip, just play with the launch limiter till you get some spin out of it, then feather the throttle a bit and your golden! yeah i didnt burn out. and i dont power shift.
should i drop my air pressure more? i had 27 in that run. and i thought 3k rpm launch was to much because all the wheel hop. so your saying boombas wont help much? ill raise it to 4k for next time and try it. Last edited by HITvPASTu; 12-29-2011 at 04:50 PM. |

Yea try around a 4500 launch and rather popping the clutch, ride it out slower!!..that'll definietly help with the wheel hop!..I run a Hasport rear mount and a stiffy top dog bone mount for track days and get 0 wheel hop!!..an powershifting 3-4 will help tremendously!!

Tire pressure is probably pretty good. 27-30 is usually standard for street tires. I normally run 28 front and 35-40 rear when i run street tires. The boombas may help a good bit, but one of my buddies with full boomba mounts and full boltons, still hops at the track. Usually its just attributed to the track prep and street tires. Street tires were not made for the track. Plain and simple. Thats why alot of people get wheel hop at the track. Hope this info helps. Good luck to ya!

i thought i was launching to hard! thanks, now i know i wasnt launching hard enough!
but i had a 2.2 60' so how much better can i honestly do launching at higher rpms which will cause me to spin and slow me down theoretically. it seems now i need to focus more on up top power since my 60' is where it needs to be |

just wait for a really cold night. Your driving is just fine. Its gonna be difficult for you to get into the 13's with street with only a 98mph trap speed. A cold night should give you the extra ponies that you need.

it was about 50 degrees out in palm beach florida. (sea level).
i just want to know if its attainable to hit 13.9 on my setup... untuned with a 60mm. next time im gonna try to launch around 3500 or 4000. but what about tire pressure. is 27 to much. i think 20 would help my launch but hurt my overall time. |

reduce as much weight, particularly in the rear as possible and bump up your rear tire pressure to 45-50 plus play with front tire pressure. You could also try to preload your suspension by slightly dragging the clutch (while staged) and holding the e-brake and squeezing the gas slightly. You'll maintain better traction if you let the weight ease off of the front tires rather than popping back from dumping the clutch.

Run factory tire pressures. Lowering the pressures on your radials will not help. you will actually lose contact patch and hinder traction. I never ran in the 13's on street tires but did run a 14.01, and that was with basic bolt ons as well. i actually increased my tire pressure to help with top end. I was trapping just over 100 mph.
