my R18 vs focus ZX3 !

Well i finally race my friends focus ZX3 last night and right of the back i pull on him at second gear i had like 2 cars on him and when i try shifting to 3rd gear i miss it ( i always seem to mess up shifting when am racing and i dont now why) and the he just pass me.

but am sure i can easyly take him if i don't miss my shifting, next time am going to try to tape it and post it here i test drive his car and his first gear has no power at all, 2nd is when his power kicks in thats why i had 2 cars on him almost at the start.

I need some tips on how to shift fast, but not miss shift!

and i do not race on the streets we race on the outsides of town.

so i am guessing that it is a zetec focus.. (00'-02')
think a little more before you shift. and dont worry about the other car so much.

personnally I don't condone racing, but maybe a weighted shift knob would help you.. I would try a skunk2 knob, you can flick the shifter into gear... buy one, open the box and you'll know you made the right choice

focuses (svt included) make me chuckle, it was my first and best kill to date. wasn't even close, unless you count boeing 747's.

I dont know about those zx3 drivers. Man where i live there at least 10 different guys with zx3s all with intakes and exhaust. They all think there cars are the hottest thing on the road. there are 3 of the guys in particular that rev at me in my si every time i pass them like they think they stand a chance. One of the guys even has a ZTEC sticker on his right infront of the rear wheel just trying to look cool. On the other hand there are 2 SVT focuses, 1 of which i have already ran and beaten quite easily. The SVT guys know they cant touch the Si so i dont even know why the zx3 guys bother. I guess its an ego thing.

well the svt focus should be able to beat a ex-r18 my friend runs a 14.8 with his and it just has a intake. they need a better driver to make them go fast. now ive went a 14.2 in my si(stock) and my brothers ROUCH zx3-duratec can whoop my ass. granted he has lots done to it but he still pulls away from me and his gear ratio is only a 3.3. im thinking as soon as he puts different gears in it and a lil giggle juice the car is going to be amaz-za-zing!

my opinion is your buddy cant drive cause the regular zx3 should do mid 15s stock with a goodass driver and with a little bit of bolt-ons to help the zetec breath its actually a pretty fast car, kinda... lol.

see the thing that most honda owners dont know is there is a very big aftermarket for the fords in europe and one of the best aftermarket company specializes parts for the focus called COSWORTH. so most of the focus's are slow but there is a rare few that know what to do to the car to make it fast so you kinda have to watch out cause you never now what your gonna run up on.

but even after all that good stuff said i still do not like the focus and i think there uglier now then they were a couple years ago. the zetec dont hold up and there (F)ound (O)n (R)oad (D)ead all the time. not to mention there weak mtx-75 transmission. it makes the k-series tranny look like the hydo chevy tranny

I seen R-18 with good drivers do also mid 15's on the 1/4 mile, and his car only has 130 horses compare to mine that has 140(not including the mods), we both have exhaust and intake so do the math, i test drove his car and like i said from a stop he will start the race losing no matter what, his first gear has no power and if he starts it on second i will have the advantage anyways.

his car top speed is only 109 i was there in his car(i have a video of it if you guys will like to see it) and that all he got out of it, i have done that in my R-18 only in 4th gear and still hade room to go on it.

i have not race an SVT but for what they are they still slow with only 170 horses.( i know i will lose probably to an SVT)

well for a 2600-2700 pound 170hp svt with just intake 14.8 isnt a bad time.

like ive said a million times, the svt stands no chance to my 14.2@97mph "stock" si. but with the right mods to anycar they can be fast.

I had a 2000 ZX3 before my Si. I had a NA setup with all the boltons including a ported head and agressive cams. I hate to say it but it was faster then my Si is now. It ran 14.1 all day long on street tires and the best I've got with the Si is 14.5. I think a slightly modded zx3 against an r18 would be a close race.

But in the end it's a Focus...tons of aftermarket potential but just another econobox.

The new civic is definitley in another class especially the Si.

I think a civic is a better option over anything out there for the money. You get the power, handling, and it keeps its value. Just got my si in August, I also looked at focus saleen N20, and decided I don’t want to pump N20 every time I go to the track. Now its sitting in the garage for the winter, but in October I went to the track and on the second run ran against an SVT focus with cold air intake, exhaust and short shifter, did 15.5 @ 93. I did 15.111 at 93, crappy launch too.

yeah i wish..

Do you have a time slip for 14.5 Is it stock or you have done things to it? I can't get it into 14's, but it is stock and i had only 3 passes.

this is my own personal opinion, but its like comparing chocolate and $h!t, i am most likely biased but the civic r18 is just better, besides the only thing a focus is fast in anything is its depreciation value.

Good thing the Focus RS didn't make it to the states. You can take whoever wrote the article for Wikipedia's last statement with a grain of salt.

Using a turbocharged version of the 2.0 litre Duratec engine (fired into life via a unique starter button), but without variable valve timing, the RS produced a minimum 212 bhp and an astonishing 230 ft/lb of torque, although most cars came out of the factory producing on average 20bhp more. Mechanically, the car was more removed from the standard Focus range than the SVT/ST170. Styling wise, the car featured a unique front bumper assembly (mainly necessitated by the need to channel air to the intercooler) and wider wheel arches and rear bumper to encompass the wider tracks. Mechanically, the car was uprated in all areas and far more bespoke than the SVT/ST170 and most notably incorporated a Quaife differential to make the car more direct, responsive and to control the power more ably as the RS was still front wheel drive. The steering was quicker while the brakes featured larger discs (which filled specially developed 18" alloy wheels). The Ford Focus RS ended production in 2004 and left the legacy of being arguably the finest front wheel drive turbo car in history.
