Did an Auto-X yesterday..

Well, I went out and did an Autocross for the Dixie Region SCCA. I won my class over a Scion TC a B-18 Civic and an 89 Mustang.. Sounds kinda weird to me that a mustang would be in a class with us, but whatever. I have tons of pics of my car running, but I wanted to show ya'll this one...

That's a Mini Cooper S.. Look at that back right tire. That's right... OFF THE GROUND!! That's the only car that I saw out there that could do that. I love those cars when it comes to Auto-X, and actually wouldn't mind gettin my hands on one sometime soon. He ran 59's all day when the next fastest (A z51 vette) ran like a 64 or something like that.

Just thought I'd share this with ya'll..

A high amount of rear roll stiffness will allow the same to happen on any car, but moreso on performance-based FWD cars because their balance is usually biased to increase front end grip and decrease rear grip. This "pissing dog" look was immortalized by older VW Rabbits and GTI's.

My old 93 Civic autocross monster did that as well given the fact it had no front sway bar, a big 22mm rear bar, custom Koni's all the way around and 600 lb/in springs at each corner.

Truth be told, while it looks cool, once that wheel leaves the ground, the rear sway bar is useless. In this particular photo, all the weight from that corner has shifted diagonally from the RR to the LF. If there isn't enough shock valving or spring rate in that LF corner, the car would understeer badly. Sadly for anyone trying to beat the Cooper S (w/LSD option) in G Stock with an Si, you are finding out that they are blessed with great shock valving and stiff springs from the factory.
