Two engines power Monte Carlos, essentially identical to those in the Impala. A 3.4-liter V6 in the LS coupe makes 180 horsepower, versus 200 horsepower for the 3.8-liter V6 in the SS coupe. Both engines work with a four-speed automatic transmission. The new-for-'04 Supercharged SS model gets a 240-hp 3.8-liter V6.

Engines Size liters / cu. in. horse-power Torque

ohv V6 3.4 / 205 -- 180 -- 205
ohv V6 3.8 / 231 -- 200 -- 225
Supercharged ohv V6 3.8 / 231 -- 240 -- 280

I put about a car length on an Impala LTZ (240HP) from a 10mph roll to 60mph, and he punched it before I did, but he did have a heavy looking girl in tow. I don't know the weight difference between the Monte Carlo and Impala but its the same engine. The 06 Monte Carlo SS has 303HP though, you'll get killed.

Thumbs up

I'm pretty sure the Si would win. My dad has the '98 Buick Regal with the same 3.8L V6 @ 200hp. That car pulls pretty hard and has power, but its heavy and an automatic. You can kill little four bangers like cavaliers and regular civics in it, but the Si will pull away from it. I should know since I've driven both. This Si is light and agile and fuel efficient like a 4 cylinder, but pulls as hard as any V-6 I've been in....... during that is.
