shouldnt i be a lil faster?
so i went to the track tonight, and i tried messin around with some ways to launch, etc. i think i found what worked best for me tonight. i was launchin at about 4 grand, feathering the clutch slightly, with 22psi in the tires. managed to pull out a 2.27 60' but only a 15.256 at 91mph. shouldnt i be a lil faster with a 60' like that?

Unless it was very hot, humid, and/or way above sea level it's definitely your shifting. Try powershifting 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th. Powershifting = keeping the gas pedal right to the floor while still using the clutch to shift. Also, be sure you are holding your shifts until 8300 rpms on the tach right before the rev limiter would cut in. Also, the best launch in this car is not necessarily the lowest 60 foot. The fastest guys on the net with our car agree that wheelspinning in 1st up to ~5800rpms will get you the best time. I was running 14.9's with 2.2 60 foots, 14.7's with 2.3's There's a good read on this at fgcoupe.com, you have to get a log-in ID to view it but it's worth the read for anyone looking for mid 14's stock..HTML Code:

Here's the thread

Between HIN, SCN, and other random shows (through work), I haven't even had time to see what is new out for our cars! To the point of this thread, tomorrow I get to attack the pavement once again. I got my DCRH back from warranty a long time ago (I was the one with the DCRH in 2 pieces), and finally just today put it back on. I missed the smell of no cats Anyways, this weekend is our shops "2 day drag event" and is hopefully gonna bring 150+ cars to the track. I rigged up an in car camera mount to take some video of the passes from the passenger headrest. At this point there is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow and a 40% chance of rain Sunday, but I am praying to the vtec gods that it holds off til Monday. I will keep you all updated as I can, and I am still determined to hit my 13.99 without the reflash and just bolt on's. Wish me well and I will hit you guys up as soon as I can! __________________ 2006 Civic SI 14.113 @ 98.03 DCRH/DC Race Catback, AEM CAI, 8k HIDs Toyo PX4's on Blitz Technospeed 3-piece 18" wheels (street) Hoosier Drag Radials on RSX wheels (strip) Tein S-techs 30% tint 08-12-2006, 04:23 AM #2 civic si hb Moderator Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: NH Posts: 581 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good luck and keep us updated __________________ Vtec is kinda like sex with an Italian supermodel on a white sand beach and crystal clear water.......once you hit it, you'll always be back for more 08-12-2006, 08:08 AM #3 Alphi Super Moderator Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Brockton, MA Posts: 1,226 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good luck on the run. __________________ K20 Swapped Civic 08-12-2006, 06:12 PM #4 SiRyan Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Vallejo, Ca Posts: 172 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll continue praying to the v-tec god for you.....Good Luck! __________________ http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2434879 2006 ASM CivicSi HFP Lip Kit HFP Suspension 8000K Pilot HID Kit 18" Black w/Chrome lip Tenzo GT-5 Smoked reverse light OEM Foglights Comptech SS Auger Shift Boot OEM Siebon CF Hood OEM Siebon CF Trunk Import Trenz CF Wing (Ordered From Import Trenz) 08-12-2006, 11:03 PM #5 xlur8ed Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: North Dakota Posts: 145 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- vtec gods hate me. I got 2 runs in and it wasn't pretty. I don't know if anyone else in the upper midwest experienced what we did, but there was an amazing haze of humidity and stickyness, followed by severe thunderstorms stretching from North Dakota/Minnesota all the way to Nebraska. Ran 14.4's, trapping 98 and 99, with better 60's then ever... I dunno if the humidity was killing me at the end of the track or ?!?! Shifting was on point, and runs seemed very smooth... Hope the ol' Si didn't lose its mojo Tomorrow we are have another day, and it is supposed to be mid 70's with a 50% chance of rain, but hopefully the cooler weather will do me some good! Haven't had a chance to check out the tape from the in car video, as we all have been chillin under pop up tents in the rain drinkin. WOOT!!! More tomorrow guys/gals! 08-13-2006, 08:55 AM #6 BeefCurtains Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Posts: 22 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey xlur8ed, about your 60 foot times. I had my car out once (stock) and I ran my best time with a modest 60 foot. My best 60 ft times were 2.2's but the problem with a 60 this low was that I hooked at like 4500 rpm and had to literally wait for the car to hit VTEC, every 2.2 60' was good for a 14.9. When I ran my best time, 14.7, I had a 2.36 60 foot BUT the car hooked right at 5800-5900 and there was no VTEC delay. What I'm saying is that low 60' with this car may not translate into the lowest quarter mile time (this boggled my mind at first but it's true). If it's very humid when you run again maybe don't hit the burn out box first, if you can hook closer to VTEC I bet you'll be low 14's and possibly 13.9x. The first thing I said about the Hondata was that it would kick *** at the track in 1st gear because you can get a low 60' and hook at 4500 rpm's where VTEC power will be right there waiting. Good luck though. Keep us posted. 08-14-2006, 08:18 AM #7 xlur8ed Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: North Dakota Posts: 145 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: Originally Posted by BeefCurtains Hey xlur8ed, about your 60 foot times. My 14.1 runs were spinning until 5900ish and then hooking, but resulted in 2.3 60's. I think I am gonna have to give up on 13's for just bolt ons, and mod myself to 13's 08-14-2006, 10:13 AM #8 SiRyan Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Vallejo, Ca Posts: 172 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah... do what you gotta do. 08-15-2006, 09:05 PM #9 BeefCurtains Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Posts: 22 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rain sucks man, it cut my day at the track in half when I went out too. I saw the vid of your 14.1 from a while back and it looked like you could have got into the 13's too bad mother nature's a *****. Add the hondata and the low 60's won't hurt your time as bad. The higher rev limit will give you a higher average power too. I think it'd be easy 13's at that point. Keep us posted if you hit the track again. Good luck. 08-17-2006, 09:49 PM #10 HighOctane Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: West Berlin, NJ Posts: 131 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:"What I'm saying is that low 60' with this car may not translate into the lowest quarter mile time (this boggled my mind at first but it's true)." I completely agree with you. Look at all the videos from my passes. The 14.2 run with just catback I was spinning like crazy but still managed to run a crazy time. __________________ Bone Stock 2006 Black Civic Si 14.824 @ 92.67 STOCK!!! 14.268 @ 96.27 GReddy Catback 14.209 @ 98.17 GReddy Catback, AEM CAI 13.961 @ 99.49 GReddy Catback, AEM CAI, DCRH, Hondata Reflash KEEP HATING AND I'LL KEEP SMILING!!! |

Background on the guys posting in the above thread:
xlur8ed: ran 14.1 with AEM intake, exhaust, race header, radials High Octane: 1st 13 second NA 2006 SI, mods are listed at the bottom of the thread. BeefCurtains: ran 14.71@94.3 bone stock with spare in the trunk during the summer months These guys don't "race" with magazines times boys and girls, they go to the track and lay it all out (I should know, I'm BeefCurtains, hey hey hey). FYI - we all powershift. I think that both myself and xlur8ed do not powershift 1st-2nd gear however. If I remember right HighOctane does powershift 1st-2nd. |

I think you should launch at maybe 4300 RPM remember never to hit the limiter each time you hit that limiter it takes about a second off your time i like to shift at 8100RPM a second after the light flashes. My current 0-60 best is 5.9 seconds with just a AEM CAI.

yeah i would love to se it, but im not in any way trying to say he didnt do it. i beleive its entirely possible. also depends very much on altitude, temperature, humidity, and wind, as you all know by now. and if the track is good...only track ive ever run on was worse than the streets of that town in texas, bt it was legal so who cares. and cheap
