Advice please

I'm thinking about running my car at the track tonight. This will be my first time so can everyone please give me some tips. I have seen and heard many different opinions of when you should launch. I basically want to launch without my tires spinning so what would be best to do this? Anything anyone things I should know would be much appreciated. I'm more scared to look like a dumbass going to soon, to late, hitting the rev limiter etc. So I guess I'll just take everyones advice and watch other cars to make my decision if I'll run or not. Thanx in advance.

Good luck at the track tonight! Though you might not post an amazing time your first time, I'm sure you'll post a very good one. Practice makes perfect. You'll learn much more through track time. Remember to save your slip and post it up! :)

quarter mile

all right, i hope you have a great night at the track, by my experience my best time 15.4 stock i did it with out heating my tires and taking it out at 3000rpm, take it to the limit 8000 rpm and then shift. youll be under 16.

Everyone looks like they don't know how to drive at some point. You can't control every single variable every single time you go to the track. I've seen pros have crappy nights. But launch between 3-4K and then play with it a bit. Find out what works best for you and then improve upon it. That's really what any of us do. There are right and wrongs, but not everybody's right is everyone else's wrong.

Best advice: Avoid the drag strip altogether and try Auto-X! (Or GP racing!) The fun, exhilaration, etc., are multiplied when you actually have to turn the wheel

Couldn't agree more. Yes, you can mod a Si for Drag, but the strentgh of the car is in it's handling capability. It was tuned for the track. If Drag is what you love then 3 to 4k is the best launch RPM.

do not launch at 3-4k you will bog and kill your 1/4 time. you gotta have some balls...drop the clutch 3/4 of the way at 4500-5000 and feather out of the hole.

true to what you said but, she doesnt want to spin tires and like she siad this will be her first time at the track. I would say, after she gets a feeling for the car then yeah go ahead and start shifting at 4500-5000 and feather out of the hole.

Has anyone told you to go on the 3rd yellow and not green? Reaction times will be a hell of alot better. Trust me you won't get a red.

not too bad. practice makes perfect.

i also agree on autocrossing or gymkana time attacks. they're fun as hell cus you can throw the car around. if you ask me...i'd say the fun comes from the corners. that's where you'll really appreciate your car's strengths.
