First Auto-X today

just got home. Methinks that both the engine and brakes are more powerful than the allseason tires (=

Big thanks to EFT for taking me on a touring lap though, and grats to both him and his son (*cough* and nearly everyone else *cough cough*) for spanking me like a redheaded stepchild (=

Clay,

It was good to see you at the auto-x today. The first one is always an eye-opener. It is extremely rare when somebody with no experience runs competitive times, so you shouldn't be too disappointed. You were able to improve 4 seconds from your first run.

The Si will certainly lead you to high expectations and you should continue to gain experience. As is the case in any form of motorsports, seat time is the path to success. I've only run 3 auto-x and I'm just starting to touch on some competitive times. BTW, my wife got some good shots of us and they will be posted later today.

Yeah, tons of pics of the Sis up there. And you were right when you mentioned not noticing the body roll untill you see the pics of it happening (=

Still, not too bad, saw a guy scrape up his 5series' front bumper in the hairpin at the A workstation (ouch)

Heh, if you went with the All Seasons still on it is an 'adventure' to say the least. Not quite ice skating, but some good summer tires will make a huge difference for you.

Yeah, we pretty much spanked the bimmer boyz. I'll post results when they become available. I'm not sure if alot of people care, we seem to have a lot of straight liners in the bunch.

The guy who ran what I believe to be 2nd best of the day (grey cooper S, maybe EFT can correct me if Im wrong on this) I dont think I ever saw on more than 3 wheels. To include the two times I saw it parked (changing wheels with a jack, but never the less). Usualy saw him on 2, which was fun, because the brakes would stop the wheel from spinning, which is interesting to watch to say the least (=

Fixed for you (;

To be fair though, my worst time of the day was better than the best I saw one of the M3 Coupes run, so I while I didnt do as well as I would have liked, I wasn't dead last by any means either. For a first autocross, in a car Im not really /that/ familiar with (3400 miles, about 2k of those roadtrip to SC and a couple to Atlanta) Im pretty pleased.

Will try to be up there next time as well.

Yeah. the Dark Gray Cooper S is drivin' by Jim Smith. He has a lot of mods done to that car. It is super stiff and he dives it HARD!

Check it out!

Just north of Atlanta, in the burbs. Gwinnett County Fairgrounds

Here is the BMW Club Auto-X page
and here is Fairgrounds info

The fairgrounds are kinda hit or miss to find them, not marked at all, luckly I got behind a mini, with tires in the hatch, and numbers on his side, so was a pretty safe bet for me to follow him (;

Ahh, I actually know where those are.

Also, I made a trip to six flags today...

I got a rock chip on the paint just behind my driver's door *tear*.
