Celica might get out of the hole faster, RWD, would be very close, you have LSD.

I think it would be evenly match VVTi vs. iVTEC.

I took one out with my old 89 Conquest TSi 188hp, 234 lbs ft tq.

don't worry about reviews, it's all in the driver, drop the clutch and weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...................

yeah, Celica's are FWD

I think most GTS in stock form run low 15's, so it shoudl be a drivers race.

You will beat'em everytime, if you both are = drivers... Not only can you stay in gear longer, but you have a lil over 20bhp on him...

And vvti is not their vtec... Its called something else.. IIRC its VVL but that reminds me of the nissan version..

You do have 20hp over them but they have 300lbs less then you. A Celica GT-S is not a car to be taken lightly. In stock form the car is very capable of high 14s and low 15s.

A couple corrections here. The 00-01 GT-S revs to 8300, the 02 revs to 7800, and the 03+ rev to 8300. Most owners who have an 02 and are racing them have converted there ECU to rev to 8300 as well.

I own both cars so I can say I think they are about the same in power, the difference for me is the shifting. Keeping the Celica on its power band is a pain in the arse whereas shifting the Si is like butter.

When it all comes down to it, it is a drivers race.

ps. 2RotorMotor; it is VVTL-i (variable valve timing and lift with intelligence). VVTi is in the Celica GT.

Motor Trend rated the Si with less than a 7 second 0-60, not over 7.0 seconds. I'd place my bet with the Si, because it has a larger displacement engine and you can keep more easily keep the car in the powerband.

gts is a fun car, handles great. that motor is used in the lotus elise i believe. i've seen videos of a gts with bolt ons, ecu, and weight redux run low 14/high 13 at the track. it may have been on slicks though.

regardless, si ftw.

lotus elise.
Powertrains and Performance:
Power for the Lotus Elise comes from a Toyota-sourced 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Lotus fitted unique intake and exhaust components, as well as a reworked engine controller, to broaden the engine's power band and push peak horsepower to 190 at 7,800 rpm. Torque peaks at 138 lb-ft at 6,800 rpm. The four-wheel independent suspension system features Eibach springs and Bilstein monotube shocks. Lotus claims a 0-to-60 time of just 4.9 seconds. A limited-slip differential is optional.

its almost the same wiegh as celica and same number of HP/lbs.TQ as si..but how came they claim 4.9??

almost the same weight as a celica? Elise weights under 2000lbs (1975lbs per Edmunds)

And the engine is tuned for a slightly broader power band (Elise vs. Celica GTS Dyno)

As for how they do a 4.9 60 run, pounds per HP. When your only pushing about 190 HP, droping almost 600 lbs is a BIG lb/hp difference. At 2580lbs, and 180hp a Celica GT-S is 14.3 lb/hp. A 1975 lb Elise, pushing 190 hp, is 10.4 lb/hp, nearly 25% less lb/hp. Now at top end that dosent make tooooo much of a difference, but from 0 to 1 mph, your pushing all that mass, against its current inertia, so that 25% really makes more of a difference than one would think coming right off the line. My last place was about 4 miles from the only place in Atlanta that could sell Lotus cars, so I used to see them being test driven pretty often. They weren't "fast" cars nearly so much as they were "quick" cars. The little less weight went a long ways towards that. Also their torque is a bit better and they tend to have RHEEEEEEEELY good tires on them, so you dont burn too much launching (;

Anyways its 3:30 am almost, so Ill STFU now as I just realized Im rambeling.

And don't forget that the Lotus is RWD. That thing is like a go cart with a rocket.
