1. no steering wheel controls means you do not need to buy/install the PAC-SWI-PS.
2. The metra harness kit is better than the Scosche harness kit(wire colors match and is better built)
3. You need to buy a scosche double din dash kit. If the interior of your car is ivory/tan, then you need the Earth Taupe Color. If your car has a dark interior, then you need the gray scosche dash kit.
4. You won't be installing the amp wire, so all you need to do is find 4 rca plugs and solder them with the metra harness for the speakers.
5. buy the scosche antenna kit which is 2 bucks.
6. follow the steps throughly

1. will this install be the same as if i bought the z3
2. if i had the z3 prof. installed would they be able to integrate my amp.
3. since they would not modify it to be playing dvd while moving, would it be easy for me to adjust it so i could after the install?

it should be pretty straight forward.

Read throughout the forums and look for the info you want. The amp integration is just a soldered wire. If you get it professionally done, you will get raped like someone did(he got charged over $150 for just a soldered wire LOL)

do it yourself. its pretty easy actually
most shops will cut the oem harness and you will have no clue about it. what you can do is buy the metra kit for the basics. and when you wanna tap wires and you don't know or are scared of soldering or have no tools for that, go to home depot and buy some t-tap connectors. they are 65 cents for h connectors. make sure they are 18-22ga

If i reverse it and put it back to stock bf i sell my car....will it be noticeable that i did this stuff to it and is the steering wheel controls reprogramable to stock

Not at all since you'll be using a harness kit so there will be no splicing. You program the PAC-SWI-PS to get your steering wheel controls(since the gps unit doesnt have the wiring for that).

Wow, what an awesome writeup!

Do these Double DIN units not have the separate box for the navigation? The last monitor unit that I owned was about 6 years ago, and it had a separate box that I had to mount under the seat.

I haven't been able to find somewhere locally that stocks Metra harnesses. The store that I generally would trust to do decent installs sells Best Kit harnesses - any feedback on those vs. the Scosche?

Yeah, I know, I already have one of the kits on order from ebay that includes the Scosche dash kit, antenna adapter, and wiring harness.

I was kind of hoping that if the Scosche wiring harness isn't usable to find a harness locally that works, rather than go and order one in and wait for that to arrive as well.

damn I tried to install my avic-d3 today and I got no sound.
I have a sedan and have no blue/gray wire for me to tap it into the acc. The rest of my connections are good bc i get power, ipod works, pac-swi works, bluetooth works, navi works but no sound...damnit

Oh yeah, I got an 06 ex sedan which means no amp. However, I get no sound from the navi unit.

So instead of just griping, how about providing suggestions for improvement, and so others who have the same car as you can benefit from your experience?

For instance, I'm currently looking at working on an LX coupe, as said above, and I could use any tips you have to provide... as is, knowing that "this DIY is useless" is equally useless.

I already have D3 installed on my 07 LX coupe.

I did not have this wonderful guide when I had it installed, but it should work fine if instruction is followed carefully.

as for striker, well, he prolly made a mistake somewhere.

lol I meant this DIY is useless for dx,lx coupes and non-si Sedans. For the rest, it works perfectly(EX coupe, si coupe and si sedan).
Don't use any RCA connectors. Use the connectors from the power plug and solder them to the metra kit for the speakers.

7. violet - positive rear

If you have an aftermarket subwoofer already installed professionaly, you have to know which one is positive and which is negative. You will have two from each(at 2 ohms each subwoofer). Combine the two positive and connect the two wires(usually green or red) to the violet wire from the power plug on the aftermarket HU. Then, connect the negative wires of the subwoofer(combine them) to the violet/black wire on the power plug(if using a pioneer HU, #7 and #8 are the violet and violet/black wires). If you hook them up to the green and green/black(#5 and #6), you will blow a fuse or short something out.

Every aftermarket Unit uses RCA connectors and that is used if you have an amplifier from the factory. If you connect RCA directly to the speakers with no amp, there will not be enough power to drive the speakers.

Many cars come with an amplifier but there are others without an amplifier from the factory. That's why you do not use those RCA connectors but use the power plug to connect to the speakers directly(follow instructions from your manual to know which wires you need to use)
