Mark Levinson Tweeters from 06-08 Lexus GS in SI- (heavy pic) 56k shellshock!
Well I recetly noticed that under load our Premium sound isn't so premium as for our tweeters they tend to crackle ......
I recently accuired 2 Mark Levinson tweeter/midrange speakers from work..... Not going to say how but the list price for the baby's are $260.00 a piece! I paid nothing! ![]() pic1 ![]() pic2 ![]() So I did some research in the DIY section on how to remove tweeters and now am ready to do this DIY... Step 1. I wasn't able to put the midrange in the car because simpley there was no room up in dashboard to do so so I removed the tweeters from the the Lexus GS ASSy. pic3 ![]() pic4 ![]() Step 2. I removed the tweeters from My si.(not to bad) (Special thanx to brolewis and his DIY- Front Speaker/Tweeter Install Guide) pic5 ![]() pic6 ![]() pic7 ![]() pic8 ![]() Step 3. I removed the Si Tweeters from the housing not to hard just need a small pick. Upon doing so i noticed the protective screen came off with the tweeter.(this protects the tweeter membrain from being damaged and helps direct sound) pic9 ![]() Step 4. I removed Si's Tweeter protective screen from both speakers and Placed them over the Mark Levinson ones's.(what do you know perfect fit!) pic10 ![]() Step 5. I got out the hot glue gun....very messy and got some burns but it was worth it... I hot glued the Si's tweeter cover over the Mark Levinson tweeter....(NOTE: I set it up so wiring would come out the same place where connector would plug in on Si's factory Tweeter) pic11 ![]() pic12 ![]() Step 6. I hot glued the new Mark Levinson Tweeter to the Si's Speaker Grill/cover pic13 ![]() pic14 ![]() Step 7. Let glue dry and bench tested speakers using system in the house both sounded great. Vid 1. ![]() Vid 2. ![]() Step 8. So that I could retain the factory connector in case of going back to stock I used Splice connectors to connect the speakers to the wiring. (special thanx to Pumpdog and his Audio thread- Audio Wire Diagram ) Step 9. Installed passenger tweeter pic15 ![]() Step 10. This by far was the hardest part of the whole DIY....(I wanted to shove a screwdriver into my forehead by the time I was done) I installed the driver side Tweeter....pic16 ![]() Step 11. listened to stereo to make sure they worked. (note volume level and how loud they are ano bass either....(probably gonna get flamed for the song I choose but oh well just need something instramental) Vid 3. ![]() This concludes my DIY!
