Good question.

Um,

I have no answer.

There seems to be more room in the dash on the top.

If you use factory parts, the din pocket will be on the bottom. If you go aftermarket, I have seen some on top.

In my case, just a personnal preference.

For the tweeters... didnt't think about reducing the trebble. But then, Why would I hook up the amplifier if I need to bypass it? I didn't catch that part. But maybe i'll try bypassing it when I got time this weekend... Thanks for the tips, I'll leave some feedback of that.

I bought a Pioneer DEH-P980BT. For 700$ here in Canada.. I expected it to be good. Or, could I have done something wrong? I used the 70-1722 wiring harness and just hooked up the sub remote power (only wire not in harness). Also, the tweeters were muh louder than the other speakers. Any hints on that would be greatly appreciated. Have a nice day.

1: Did you use the factory amp and speakers?

2: What model car?

3: I velcro'd the PAC controll to the back of my DIN pocket (plenty of room back there, and easy enough to pull it out through that little trap door under the radio so you don't have to tear apart the dash to program/reprogram it)

4: I'm running a Pioneer Premier DEH-P680, great stereo, but I did not use anything out of the wiring harness but the power and ignition. I found my own ground, and everything else I ran myself with new wires. I don't recommed running a new stereo without replacing the factory speakers (they are meant to work with the low power factory stereo and have itty bitty magnets, so it's easy to overpower them)

5: Did you try putting in a power line noise reducer before the HU? (it's a couple caps and resistors you place in-line with the power going to your HU)

how do I bypass the factory amp? I have the amp exposed and there are two plugs in it. How am I supposed to connect it to my Metra/Alpine harness? Or can I just unplug the plugs?

I re-installed everything. I did not bypass the factory amplifier, but there is a background noise quite loud. I'm planning in getting a 4-channel amp and news speakers soon, so that will solve the problem for the noise. Else, I suppose I could get a noise reducer or whatever it is called.

Another question though... I used the wire harness for the sound, and it works great. I used only 3 wires on the second plug: light blue (remote for stock amp), pink and brown for the steering wheel controls. Here is my problem. I tried to follow the instruction for programming the PAC-PS unit, but I cannot get the "mode" button to work. I used a resistor for trck up/down and volume up/down, and those 4 work great... I missed only the mode. Any tips on this one?

I am going to do my SI thursday night if my radio comes in, so I can let you know. But I did pull it out to run an amp lead and it looks the same. If you get one with navi the amp lead on connector #2 is in a different spot but still light blue.

Great thread, I was just hoping someone could help me out.

I plan on getting rid of the stock sub and amp, how would I hook up an aftermarket HU so my speakers are powered only from the HU? Also has anyone pinpointed the wires needed to hook up the steering wheel control adapter? I want to maintain as many of the factory options as I can.

My other option..if I kept the stock HU and dropped the sub, could I just use an LOC from that wire for my aftermarket amp and still control it from the HU? Also would it be powered from the amp then go into my aftermarket amp..what would that do?

Thanks!

06 civic IVA-W200 install

I've installed an Alpine IVA-W200 DVD player in my 2006 Civic EX. All the wires except the yellow/black brake wire and the yellow/blue emergency brake wire are connected and secure. I've double checked to make sure that all speaker, ground, and power cables are connected to their matching cables on the aftermarket wire harnesses. The problem is that I'm not getting sound output to my factory speakers. My subwoofers are working and getting output as they should but none of the factory speakers are working. I get information about the cd or dvd on the screen of the IVA-200 and I know that the unit is reading both types of disc and picking up radio stations. Am I forgetting something in my install? Is there something wrong with IVA-W200? Is it my wiring? I've worked on this all day today and I googled nearly every topic I can think of concerning this problem. Can anyone help me?

It sounds like you missed the power lead to the factory amp on connector #2.
All the speakers run from the factory amp so if it is not powered up there will be no sound. You eather need to power it up or run speaker wire to the output speaker wires of the amp to bypass it.

Thanks for your reply. A few other questions:

1. On the factory amp there are two harnesses plugged in. I am assuming that the wider harness has all the speaker wires in it. Is that correct? If so, then what is the smaller harness for, the factory subwoofer?

2. Is there a harness I can use to bypass that factory amp? I've noticed that the wider harness plugged into it resembles the factory radio harness used in the 04 civic ex and I was considering getting the aftermarket harness for an 04 civic and wiring that to the IVA-W200 and then plugging the other end into that wider harness on the factory amp. Is this possible?

Good Questions. I have not messed with that to much, I Know one plug is speaker in and one is speaker out but I do not know where I put my pin chart from pulling the amp apart. So all I could say is good luck on that. I know some otheres have bypassed the amp but both of the radios I installed I just powered up the amp.

I found a wiring diagram that is for the factory amp connections. So today I went and bought an aftermarket stereo harness for the 2005 Civic and it turns out that that harness fits the wider blue harness that is coming from the factory amp. I will be wiring it up today and bypassing my factory amp. I just have to make sure that I match up all the wires correctly. The wiring diagram is attached, just click the thumbnail.

Well, I ran into some problems. The harness doesn't have all the wires needed when you connect it to the factory blue harness. It is missing output wires for the tweeters and front speakers. So I just cut the wires on the factory harness. I've already spent too much time and money on this and I didn't really want to have to figure out how to get pins in the 05 civic harness where I needed them for the tweeters and front speakers. The 05 civic harness does fit that factory harness however just doesn't have all the wires. I connect my pac-tr7 using the factory harness pin 10 for power and pin 20 for ground. I'll take some pics and post a thread of my work.

Hello, first of all THANK YOU very much to xtv-sidecar for starting this thread ad for being brave to do the DIY. You're a big help to us 06 Civic owners who intend to change the factory HU. Kudos to you and this site!

I would also want to clarify something with the center panel color... would anyone know which color ( gun metal or taupe gun metal) this panel is...

I dunno the difference between the two colors and would just like to make sure thay my friend who's buying one in the States orders the right panel for our interior. By the way, I'm from the Philippines and this is how the colors of our dashboard (upper and lower) are here for the 1.8S variant.

Thanks for the help!!!

Download and print AM/FM CD Tuner installation Instructions, I found them at http://www.collegehillshonda.com/ins...an/cdtuner.pdf

Ok. First a stock pic.

First disconnect the Negative Cable.

Remove the Driver's side lower dash cover (8 clips on the panel 3 on the left, 3 on the right and 2 in the middle) I was a little ginger pulling on the panels as this was the first time pulling my baby apart. It took more than a little pull to pop them out but they popped out fine and can take a good firm pull...

Next remove the inside cover from the front console lower pocket by prying the cover down in the front (2 tabs)

Remove 3 screws. 1 to the left of the steering wheel (in 3rd pic) and 2 through the front console pocket hole (A small phillips screwdriver can get the 2 in the pocket hole).

Lower and pull the steering wheel to give you more room to pull the rest of the dash.

With the screws pulled you can now pull the driver's side middle dash panel out. 11 clips (3 on the left, 4 on the right, 3 on top and one on the bottom), and disconnect the 2 wire harness plugs. I started on the bottom left and worked my way around the top and back down the left with firm short tugs.

Now with the screws pulled earlier you can pull out the center upper dash 11 clips (3 on the left, 3 on the right,2 on top and 3 on the bottom) and disconnect 6 wire harness plugs ( 3 for the radio, 1 for the heater, 1 for the air bag light and 1 for the flashers). I pulled from the left to the right, the right bottom clip didn't want to come off and finaly popped off to let me get the panel out. This was the only one to give me any trouble. Found the clip on the passenger side under dash panel if you have the same trouble, but your new center upper dash will have new clips...

Next pry the heater control rings off carefully working around the ring. Note the location of the light on the ring and the control unit...

Now remove the 4 screws holding the heater unit, 2 screws holding the flasher unit, 2 screws holding the airbag light and 3 screws holding the vent from the back side of the dash. Also pull 4 screws from the stock radio brackets to use on your new radio brackets. Install them on your new dash leaving the vent off for access to the radio bracket.

Install the control ring back on the heater control unit. Placing the din pocket through the new center dash mount the new radio brackets to the din pocket with the 2 screws provided with the din pocket. Then mount the brackets to the back of the dash using the 4 screws you pulled from the old radio bracket.

Slide your radio in above the din pocket and mount with the screws provided with the radio and reinstall the vent with the 3 screws.
Look at your new center dash panel, OOH and AAH at it.:)
Now for the fun part, Wiring your radio. Look and see if you can find an install harness yet, if not T-Tap or Hardwire (strip and crimp) the connections. The following pic and list will help.

Connector #1

#1 / Ground - Black with silver stripe
#2 / Rear R - Yellow with silver stripe
#3 / Front R - Red with silver stripe
#4 / Radio marking as LET Lt. blue with silver stripe (not used)
#5 / Radio marking as TEL No wire (EX w/nav?)
#6 / Radio marking as SECU Green with silver stripe (not used)
#7 / Front L - Orange with silver stripe
#8 / Rrear L - White with silver stripe
#9 / Illumination - Red with silver stripe
#10 / Battery 12v + White with silver stripe
#11 / Rear R + Brown with silver stripe
#12 / Front R + Green with silver stripe
#13 / ACC ignition Purple with silver stripe
#14 / Radio marking as SPD Blue with silver stripe (not used)
#15 / Front L + Blue with silver stripe
#16 / Rear L + Black with silver stripe
#17 / Illumination + Gray with silver stripe

Connector #2

#1 / Radio marking as TELMG No wire (EX w/nav?)
#2 / Radio marking as TELM- No wire (EX w/nav?)
#3 / Radio marking as HFT-11No wire (EX w/nav?)
#4 / Radio marking as REMC Pink (not used)
#5 / Radio marking as REMG Brown with silver stripe (not used)
#6 / Radio marking as AUXG Blue with silver stripe (not used)
#7 / Radio marking as AUXSH Flat black (not used)
#8 / Radio marking as AUXSG Brown with silver stripe (not used)
#9 / Radio marking as NAVSH No wire (EX w/nav?)
#10 / Radio marking as NAVG No wire (EX w/nav?)
#11 / Radio marking as HFT No wire (EX w/nav?)
#12 / Radio marking as TEL+ No wire (EX w/nav?)
#13 / Radio marking as HFT-12 No wire (EX w/nav?)
#14 / Radio marking as PASM No wire (EX w/nav?)
#15 / Factory AMP Power control wire Lt.Blue with silver stripe
#16 / Radio marking as AUXD White with silver stripe (not used)
#17 / Radio marking as AUXR Green (not used)
#18 / Radio marking as AUXL Yellow with silver stripe (not used)
#19 / Radio marking as NAVR No wire (EX w/nav?)
#20 / Radio marking as NAVL No wire (EX w/nav?)

Now attach your Antenna sub harness to the antenna plug (sorry I did not get a pic of the Antenna sub harness. It has a connector on one end and a normal antenna end and 1 wire (Yellow with green stripe i think) at the other end. Here is a pic of the conector to plug in to. I did not connect the yellow/green wire and still get good reception.

Cable tie the wires up out of the way leaving enough to connect the radio before sliding the dash back in. Connect all the wire connectors back onto the center dash panel including the antenna and install the center dash. Connect the wire connectors back onto the driver's side dash and install the driver's side dash. Replace the 3 screws. 1 to the left of the steering wheel (in 3rd pic) and 2 through the front console pocket hole (A small phillips screwdriver can get the 2 in the pocket hole). Pop the pocket cover and lower driver's side dash back on and reconnect the negative battery cable.
Crank it up and turn on the Radio.

AHH the sweet sound of success.

Hope this helps some of you out there...

Do you have the spicific locations for the 17 pin connector? I can't figure out which ones are the 5 small ones.

Hey man. Great DIY! I had planned on not going aftermarket on my baby but I accidentally disconnected the battery and the stocker deactivated and I need a code to reactivate. I just might use this guide to change to a good radio in the future, might be pretty soon too... been cruising without tunes for about a month and a half now. But hey, get to listen to my engine more now:)
