Yea i figure but if i'm gonna make a drop in double din carputer the place i thought i should start was using the dimensions of the unit that already fits. I've heard that the unit is only 5 inches wide which kills me. The motherboard is 7x7 inches. Any help would be great. I need to get the back dimensions as in not including the screen. Everything that goes behind the dash basically.

One more quick question. It looks like i'm looking at about 5.5 inches in depth. My motherboard is 7"x7" i'm praying there is a little more room back there lol.. If not my whole idea just went in the toilet.

LOL!! Yeah no problem. The depth will be close but it would probably fit if you put it in at an angle.

I have another clearance question for you Do you think these dimensions will fit in the radio compartment.

Width: 180mm(7.08")
Height: 104mm(4.09")
Depth: 167mm(6.57")

better yet these dimensions

Width: 178mm(7")
Height: 100mm(4")
Depth: 182mm(7.16")

What do you think? I found some double din cases that might fit my system with a little tweaking but these are the dimensions i have to work with. Its either this or complete case fabricate

It looks like you are off to a good start and being kinda a computer nut myself it looks like a fun project. I think it could be done. Unfortunately, part of your project is going to have to be trial and error.

You know it's really not that hard to pull out the dash panels and the stock radio. It's only a couple bolts and then it all just pulls apart. Do you have the nav dash panel yet? I'd say the only way to figure out exactly how much depth you are going to have is to install the nav dash and measure how much depth you got.

If the mobo is 7x7, you might be better off putting the cables out the side, probably the vent side. It might save a lil space, if it fits that way.

btw, what kind of screen do you plan on using? Since the factory nav screen is pushed pretty far in, maybe you gain a lil space by mounting it farther out.

The only problem with having the wires go out the side is the dimensions no longer work. If you only have 5.5" depth then if you turn the board on the side then u go over like 2 inches which from what i can see will kill me.....

I'm thinking about saying screw it and running it to my trunk. I don't see much gain having it in the dash. I thought about it for a little bit and realized there isn't much to gain from it. It would be easier to steal and have less ventalization...

Yeah, I'd have to agree that running it to the trunk is going to be a better idea. It will be easier to install and much easier to maintain.

^^ The factory Honda dash for the nav is better. The color actually matches perfectly and it's cheaper.

So now that you are planning on mounting it in the trunk, what case do you plan on using? And what kind of power supply? Same kind as normal slim pc's?

I think I am going to do a pc in the trunk and run it to my a/v input on my nav. Why not.

I'm going to use this Apex AW-100 case i think thats then name i'll have to check my excell sheet at home. I'm still using the M2-ATX supply.. I'm still a little scared too.. Based on my calculations under full load i should only be drawing like 152W which is just under that 160W supply.

If you hook up ur carputer to regular av inputs u won't get a clear image. I believe its like hooking up ur comp to ur tv. Unless ur nav is capable of VGA resolution which most aren't. If ur just playing movies and listening to music then it doesn't matter at all lol...

I'm trying to write some code for centrafuse to integrate the Si steering wheel controls to it. I'm going to use a microcontroller board to send a byte of data when the button is pressed and that will send a command to centrafuse telling it to do whatever. I'm having some issues but i should get it going pretty soon.

I think you are right about the picture quality on the rca input. I got the Eclipse AVN 5435. I'll probably hook something up to see what it looks like. But... I guess I might have to get a touch screen instead.

You are using the centrafuse frontend? Is it worth the 125 or 250? and is it the best one out there?

Yes its worth 125 i think there navigation sucks.. I use iguidance plugin with centrafuse 2.0 I love this thing its so pretty and friendly and they wrote their own bluetooth stack too. Of course this doesn't mean phone works perfectly as i have not tested it. i will have an update this week cause i'll be buying all my hardware and software next week. I can't figure out how to get my code to loop around.

Carputer Centrafuse Com Port Plugin

For all of you guys who are centrafuse fans like i am now I created a Com port plugin for centrafuse that will allow you to send a command through the com port and centrafuse will interpret it and execute certain command.

The command list i designed was for utilizing steering wheel controls as well as setting up the voice control like AvWuff's project which i just thought was amazing. Thanks AvWuff for the help.

Command List
SN - Next Song
SP - Previous Song
VU - Volume Up (Without a dialog box)
VD - Volume Down (without a dialog box)
VC - Toggle Voice Command

If you want me to add more commands let me know. I can do it but it just didn't seem like many people would need more than just those.

So Civic owners this would be a way to keep your steering wheel controls if ur building a carputer. Of course ur gonna need a little more hardware and a little more code but its not too bad
