Just so people are aware, there are 2 wires that are blue with silver stripes...
One is on the radio harness that will plug into your Metra harness...the other is left dangling when you remove the factory radio. The light blue wire w/ silver strip on the harness left dangling is the amp turn on wire. I found this out the hard way after giving 12V to the wrong wire...which ended up being a front speaker wire. Afterwards, the front channels do NOT work and I'm assuming I fried the front channels of the factory amp. PLEASE test-everything before making connections!!! The rears sound ok though haha I have a nice Alpine 40x4 channel amp to put in and I will re-use the crutchfield OEM amp bypass harness to install it and utilize the factory speaker wiring.

i connected everything, and checked the connections with my multimeter.. one of my connections had a resistance of something like 40 ohms.. this wont affect anything with sound quality will it? also, the RCA wires that i spliced were REALLY thin. about 1/3 or 1/2 that of the metra harness.. is this normal? thanks!

maybe i'm not understanding what you did but it sounds like you did this: from aftermarket radio-amp turn on wire ( always blue to me) then you hooked that wire up to the Right Rear = Blue(should have tapped it into the light blue one) but if that was case your rca cables are plugged in backwards and should have blown your rear channel.... so is what i am describing what you did? and is there two diffrent plugs one that the metra plus into and the other that usually isnt used but you only tap one wire into it(the amp turn on to that one blue wire) or is it all in the same harness? im just woundering cause im about to install nav on my car and dont want to do what you did or if i did i would throw my stock unit back in and bring it in for service and say it just went out. |

I checked my solder job - and resoldered a different RCA cable to that speaker - still no good. Being that this only happens when the key is turned to ACC II it would almost imply that there is a ground issue (ACC II turnes on other mechanisms and these mechanisms may share the same ground). The only problem I have with this theory is that it only seems to be happening to one speaker. If there were a ground loop issue it seems that it would effect all the speakers I may try to ground everything out at a screw on the metal chassis instead of the ground on the factory harness. Still, it would seem that this issue would be present in all of the speakers and not just the tweeter of the driver side front speaker. This is obviously a common theme. Has anyone found a fix for this (without using the amp bypass or aftermarket amp)? I would say that there may be a bridged connection in the metra harness, but the buzzing would be present in the ACC I position as well. Before you ask, YES - my wiring is correct (possible groundloop issue not withstanding). This is seriously pissing me off!! If anyone could save me from spending more money, I would greatly appreciate it!!!! |

yea, i called up metra and they inculde in there instructions how to use the factory amp so i asked them if i should wire up rca's or just wire it normal and just run a wire to the blue wire to turn on the amp and they said its better just to run it normal and just tap the wire. I also talked to my dad who used to be a nuclear engineer for the navy and he said just to do it normal as well. I fix electrical systems on helicopters for the coast guard and it sounds like the rca are causing problem with this being the most of the are shielded pairs. but my question is to you tap the blue wire with the amp turn on wire or the acc red wire. cause if you tapped it with the red wire cause that could be the problem. if you tapped it with the red wire either use the amp/power antenna wire or go to the cig lighter and use the positive wire off that.

My problem is slightly different. Maybe someone can help? The buzz / hum is really quiet and only happens when the headlights are on and the amp is powered (if I push the dimmer all the way up or turn off the headlights, then the buzz goes away).
If I unplug the control to the factory amp the buzz goes away. I've tried unplugging all the preout RCAs and still get the buzz as long as the amp control and headlights are on at the same time. |
