Hey guys,
In the learning process so I want to make sure I am doing this right. Purchased a Scosche HA10B and soldering my RCA cables appropriately and plugged it in where the HU was. Will theese wires end up going into the Factory AMP through the small connector or big connector? Also does anyone know the pin-out of these two connectors? (I'd like to test with a meter before I start powering things up thats why) Thanks! |

So if I wanted to just wanted to power the rear speakers and stock sub, all I have to do is just wire the rear wires from the harness? I can also replace those 6.5" in the back while doing this right. I know my way around audio but not this stock stuff.

I just did this mod today and finally can crank my radio beyond 20 without blowing out the windows and the static I used to have is long gone. It was a bit of a PITA but worked out well. Also a lot easier if you want to change headunits cause all you have to do is plug the RCAs into the new unit instead of re soldering the harness. |

i am currently on my third HU and i'm finally pleased. I first used an alpine CDA-9885, which was a nice unit but then complete crap if you ever wanted to use the pre-outs. they were absolutely terrible. i then moved on to a kenwood and i can't remember the name off hand but i liked it somewhat but it was not bright enough and there was no way to adjust the brightness. so i then moved on to a JVC KD-AR880 and i liked it somewhat but i had bought the Harmon Kardon Guide and Drive navi and was not please so i took that back and then purchased the avic D3 and i love it. i also first started running an Interfire 700w amp to an Arc Audio Chip Foose Series 12" woofer. i'm still getting a lot of white noise and the volume levels are ridiculous. i just had a buddy lend me 2 JL audio 12w6's with a Phoenix Gold MS2250 amp and an Audio Control 2XS crossover that hits so hard but i've only been able to go up to about level 10 on my HU, will this way of wiring the harness help me??

what does this do that just using the regular metra speaker wiring harness doesn't ... for instance i have a pioneer premier deh-550mp and all the harnesses i had ordered were plug and play...its pushing the HU to the stock Amp and still sounds good after EQ adjustments. JW what this does?

Im trying to make this harness.... well i already made one... but it didnt work.
in your diagram, your RCA cables literally has a + and - wire. the ones im using have the one wire in the middle (+) and the outside copper (i think its copper) wires (-)... at least thats my understanding of how the RCAs are designed (maybe im mistaken) I dont have my camera handy to illustrate with a picture, but i hope you know what im talking about. so, i wired the RCA(-) wires to the (-) wire on the metra and the RCA(+) to the (+) on the metra... solder/tape, etc. I did this for all 4 RCAs. I then installed the harness and wired the necessary things to the aftermarket unit (avic-d3) red/yellow/orange/etc i then tapped the blue/white wire from the avic-d3 (labeled: remote system control) to the 'light blue' wire on the factory side harness. When i powered on the unit, all worked fine, but i was able to get no sound via radio or CD. *note: i did the d3 video bypass and moved the 'mute' on the d3 harness and grounded it along w/ the parking-brake wire. i dont think this could cause my issue There was another blue wire on the D3 labeled (antenna control) or something of that nature. And there was another lightblue wire on the factory side (it has a silver stripe). Is it possible that i tapped the wrong wire(s)? I only have myself available to do this, and i dont have a voltage meter. so i cant really test w/ the stock HU. Basically, im trying to determine where my error is. 1. Is it my RCA cables, not having distinct + and - wires (like the illustration you gave)? 2. Did my soldering job not work? 3. Did i use the wrong 'blue' wire on the aftermarket HU side? 4. Did i tap into the wrong 'light blue' wire on the factory side harness? any help is greatly appreciated as i am at a loss here. thanks for everyones time edit: after reading some more posts, it seems that my error is most likely in the 'light blue' wire that i tapped into. i am going to re-try this tomorrow.

you used the right 'blue wire', however i had a similar problem but didn't use the rca deal like you all have been doing. i used the metra harness. The one thing no one mentions when you aren't getting sound is that you are still running through the factory amp. This lack of sound is caused by the amp not being turned on. I had the problem and had to find which wire was the amp turn on lead, real simple just check all of them and you'll find it, then i just gave it power (tapped it into the 'blue wire') along with the HU.

I made my harness tonight - turns out Radio Shack had 18 gauge speaker wire pre-wired with RCA ends...one RCA per speaker channel with positive and negative wires on the opposite end. Exactly what we need! This made soldering and taping my connections a snap, which was a good things since I haven't soldered anything in 10+ years!!
Here are pics of the harness - since the cable from Radio Shack is all sold separately in the same color, I used tape to mark the connections. Full solid black is the rear, stripped is front. The RCA with tape on it is the right channel, no tape is the left. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Just bought an '08 SI (w/o Nav) at the beginning of this month. Last night I bought the AVIC-D3 from Crutchfield and it complained that the 70-1722 harness (Honda Receiver Wire Harness For select 2006-up models at Crutchfield.com) is not compatible. Instead told me to use a different one... (Honda Integration Adapter Bypasses the factory amplifier in select 2006-up Hondas at Crutchfield.com)
I think I want to use the Amp integration method (unless others have had better results with bypass? -- I've been reading mostly in 8thcivic and avic411). Are the radio harnesses different on '08? Also; possibly off topic to this thread, but is there a harness for the other 20-pin connector...I know it's only two pins (Amp control and Remote Control [REMC]) that I need, but just curious. Thanks! |
