Not sure what you are asking. Fade and balance work fine. no seperate sub control of course. Using the PAC SWI-JACK I can use the channel and volume buttons, I have not figured out how to get the mode button to do anything though. |

Been a bit since someone posted in this...
My SI is coming in this week and I've already got a Pioneer Avic-Z2 Navi on the way. From what I hear this si the best way to hook up the radio, Simpler, and from what I can tell the posters in this thread actually prefer it over the amp bypass (why it's that way I don't know, with every other car I've owned amp bypass was the best way to do it, but maybe it's because the stock amp is actually powerfull, I donno) Enough of this drunken babble, I already have the amp bypass harness in the mail but I think I'm going to use this method instead, seeing as it's less wiring, the sound seems to be preferred, and I get to keep the stock sub and tweeters and there's less wiring. (I can later decide if I want to put my JL stuff back in). Only thing is that the level of the stock sub can't be adjusted, so it's like having it on 0 with the stock radio, right??? We'll see if I like it after a while. Anyone have anything else to add? thanks! |

If I could be so bold as to make a request and ask for a quick review of the your system after you install your z2 with this method. Levels, clarity, overall happiness, that kinda stuff. I'm about perform a similar install but I'd love to get an idea of what to expect when its all said and done. Thanks.

One more question for everyone, the Schosche HA10B harness work with this install also, right? |

Agreed. Doing installs professionally, I've dealth with several different brands and never dealt with one with as much quality as Metra. The only exception I've seen are a few kits by American International that are pretty solid. Scosche and some of the other cheapies are just poorly assembled and flimsy for the most part. Buy a Metra kit and buy a Wal-Mart kit and you'll see the difference. There's a reason Metra makes like 100+ different GM radio kits and Wal Mart just sells 1 "universal"....

Ok, I installed my Z2 tonight (later than expected because someone hit my car ) using this method and it was very straight forward. I used the schosche harness but as stated everywhere the positive and negavive (yellow and black) WHERE REVERSED! I checked the harness out with my multimeter first to confirm, if you use this harness don't guess!!!The radio will not function without the factory amp turned on and to let you know on my 07 it was the light blue wire in the second small radio harness (the one on the upper left of the radio if your looking from the back, not the one you solder your rca's into) I used a wire tap to tap into it as I didn't want to cut the wire. This wire needs to be fed 12v for the amp to turn on. The volume levels seem normal to me and I'm very happy with the sound. The factory tweeters AND sub work using this method! I cannot comment much on if the overall clarity improved, since I didn't have the radio in for long (2 weeks) but I'm very happy with the outcome, I don't have my sub installed yet but the output from the factory sub was definately cleaned up a lot. Overall I give it a Thanks for the DIY |

bringing back an almost dead thread but I may want to try this out because I have my pioneer hu hooked up the normal way and I am experiencing a lot of white noise.
Does this method get rid of that noise? Or does it not help all that much? If I'm not using this method, is my stock amp (EX) not being used. thanks |

I'm not sure on trim levels yet, but did your car have premium sound? If so how did you wire in the radio, did you unplug your harness from the back of the radio only or did you have to take out your center console and unplug the factory speaker harness from the factory amp in front fo the shifter? If you didn't do that and you have premium sound then yoru feeding speaker level inputs into your factory amp which is going to cause sound quality problems. I have no white noise with this setup. With the volume off and car is dead silent. With the volume up on a silent part of a song the hiss is very light, nothing that I have not experienced on any radio in the past. |
