used this guide over the weekend and it worked just fine. Only thing is, can't tell a noticeable difference between aftermarket speakers and stock speakers

INFINITY REFERENCE 6022i 6.5" 2WAY

Has anyone installed a set of the Infinity Reference speakers in the rear deck? I installed a set of the components in the front doors ( with some modification ) but i am now being told that the magnets will hit the bar in the rear? Is this true? Anyone know a work around? I was also recommended to go with a set of Polk Audio 5.25s in the rear and that they would fit w/o modification.

Thanks

I did the install but used the factory plugs as you stated. Which is positive and negative on the factory plugs?
Thanks

Also, it's a thin spacer so a lot of speakers might not be able to clear the depth if used in doors. I always want to avoid drilling holes when all possible. Here are two brands of Honda Speaker adapters that will fit Civics with no drilling:

o American International HSB518 (they say for 2003 and up Accords, but they will also fit Civics)

o Scosche SAHC634

The above models are for 6.5 inch speakers. Just beware that some 6.5 inch speakers might require a large diameter mounting hole.

I think these spacer adapters are about 3/4 inch thick so a lot of speaker baskets should be able to clear the unconventional hole on the Civic so you can avoid doing any cutting as well.

I know my Polk DB650 pair have a relatively small mounting hole required so they will drop right into any of the above-mentioned spacer adapters and also they easily clear the Civic unconventional speaker hole so no modification on the factory hole is necessary. I use Polk DB6500 on the doors and and DB650 on the rears. They easily fit even with the slim Crutchfield universal spacers. I have a 2006 Honda Civic LX. I am still using the stock stereo so without aftermarkets amps, the sound would be crappy with the stock deck trying powering them.
sorry to bring back this old thread, does anyone have a link for these speaker adaptors to be purchased, maybe from a sponser

You can always get it to look OEM with brackets specially made for your upgrade. For instance, I found these @ crutchfield:
Speaker Brackets 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speaker adapter plates at Crutchfield.com

Hope this helps.

ya i saw that but when i was reading the review some people say i don't fit on 06+ civics

Speaker Brackets 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speaker adapter plates at Crutchfield.com

so idk if i want to purchase these and they don't fit and more drilling is required...on my old 95 civic the speakers just mount right into the speaker hole.

Well things have changed since this thread first came about. On crutchfield, you can select which car you need it for. I don't think there is just one generic part, crutchfield is usually on point with these sort of things.

naw you definitely need the brackets. amazon has them cheaper tho.

otherwise the speakers will fall right through. but the plastic from the bracket buzzes in my car when bass comes out of the speaker (or lack of bass haha) anyone else have this problem?

So i have a couple questions. When I was installing my polks in the front '06 Sedan, I tried using the factory mount and it didn't allow the door panel to reseat all the way against the door, wound up taking those out and custom mounting the speakers myself in the door(I don't understand why people are so afraid to drill into a car, then again, i used to install for a living). When I go to install my alpines in the rear, if I use the factory mount again, am I going to run into the same issues of the rear deck not wanting to reseat all the way?

I just got these from crutchfield, they came with the Infinity reference speakers that my girl friend bought me for christmas and they do not fit the rear at all. I will be hacking the stock speakers to make them fit. Don't waste your money on these. If you're scared about hacking up your stock speakers, you can buy new ones from Majestic Honda for $18 each.

that is for the volume level control for background (road noise). so let say u set it on "Hi" and your on local roads...once you get up to speed on the highway the sound will automatically go up. and when you come to a stoplight the volume will automatically go back down.

you will know the difference when you set it on "hi" but on "low" or "mid" i don't notice it.

Which factory mount did you use? Did you use the Scosche SAHC634? After I put up that post about those speaker adapters back in 2008, I did run into the same issue as you where the door panel didn't reseat all the way. It was because the door panel has an inner round lip that was meant to contact the foam lip on the factory speakers (looks to me like it's to keep water out). Since the rear deck on my '06 LX sedan also used the same stock speakers, the stock grill did the same thing when I tried the SAHC634 adapter rings. But for the rear, I had some flexibility in how I could mount the speaker and somehow moved the speaker around optimally until I got that lip to just go right over my Polk DB650 speaker. So to answer your question, if you will use the same brand speaker as your doors, but on the rear, you will likely have the same issue with the rear grill hitting the speaker too.

I noticed the DB650 have a somewhat thick solid outer top rim while other aftermarkets might not be so thick. The tolerance between the stock grill's inner ring lip and the speaker outer rim height is very tight, so it really depends on what brand aftermarket speaker you buy. Some people will have no problems while others will. I thought about just using a nibbler to cut off a 1/4 inch on the inner lip of the stock rear grill and the door panel, but since my goal was not to do any modifications to the car, I decided to just use the Scosche on the rear and made my own custom spacer for the fronts (by modifying the spacers Crutchfield sent me). I still have a picture of my custom door spacer, but I don't see a spot on this site to post that.

Man, that guy's spacer rings look much better than the ones I got from Crutchfield. His has all the holes in the right places and seems to fit the stock Civic holes perfectly. The crappy Crutchfield ones were just some universal spacer. The Scocshe I got were made for a perfect fit, but they were thick so I had trouble using them with my Polks. This one doesn't look very thick so seems to be a better bracket. On my '06 LX sedan, doors and rear panel use the exact same speakers so this ring would work for the front or rear on my car.

Just did the method to all 4 speakers this weekend. It worked great, I couldn't be happier. I used Polk db651 co-axles for the rear and Polk db6501 components for the front. The sound is much better and the stock amp has no problem providing plenty of power to them. I'll be adding a sub soon to fill in the low end. But the highs, midrange, and mid bass sound much much better now. Highly recommend the polks if you do not want to go with an aftermarket headunit or amp.

I used a Dremel w/metal cutting carbide bit for hacking up the speakers which made it very easy.

Does anybody know how to get the plastic sheet off (which covers the speakers and whole rear shelf) in a hybrid???!

For some reason hybrids don't allow you to fold the seats down.
