OK, do you need to get brackets to mount new speakers? I got 2 6.5" infinity's in my old car just waiting to be put in the brand new coupe. I was wondering if I had to go buy/make brackets to mount my infinitys, or will they mount straight into the car? Also, I did see the DIY on tearing up the OEM speakers to use their brackets, but I would prefer not to. Thanks guys

Depending on the size of the magnet you'll probably need a 1 inch spacer. I used the factory spacer though. Either way you have to drill. Spacers are about 15 bucks at best buy.

Spacer? As in something to keep the speaker from touching the rear deck? I wanted to know if the mounting holes on my speakers are gonna line up with the holes that are already there on the deck. I know at tweater they just take a piece of plywood and mount the speaker to that, then the wood to the deck.

Unless the LX is different from my SI NO, they wont. There aren't any holes for screws. You obviously haven't looked back there so i will tell you that the speakers are mounted with one long screw and two tabs that fit into the rear deck. The factory speakers are spaced about an inch high from the plastic that surrounds it. You can mount your speakers to that housing like in the DIY or you will need spacers. If you get the spacers then you need to drill new holes for it. I guess you could have a wooden ring cut that does the same thing but this is quick and easy.

If I'm wrong with the LX vs. SI someone please clarify.

This is what I'm talking about.

Sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass. And you're right, I haven't looked around too much in the back of my coupe lx, I just got it last Monday :) :) :). Those spacers you buy from best buy will not eliminate drilling, right??

Nothing will eliminate drill. If you user the oem speaker housing you must drill holes into it for the speakers. If you get these spacers you'll be drilling into the metal of the rear deck. So what ever you feel is better, cleaner, less expensive, or what have you. Personally I used the stock speaker plastic and made holes. I didn't have to buy anything and it was simple but it doesn't look really clean. I felt like it didn't matter cause I just covered them up anyway.

Aright aright, cool. Well I got some speakers waiting to be tossed in the new ride, so I think I'm gonna have to go with ruining the OEM speakers. Thanks for the quick responses/help. You da man

If I get new speakers will it sound as loud as factory? I've had that problem before where you loose alot of volume. Are there any speakers that sound better but do not require an aftermarket amp?

Depends on the speakers. Most quality after market speakers will require more power than the factory head unit puts out.

So how can you tell? 4ohms vs. 8ohms?

What do you mean? How can you tell the speakers are 4ohm or the amp. Either way look before you buy.

I used the factory spacers for the rear deck and it worked fine. I also opted in not removing the entire deck upon installation. The deck will lift high enough to remove the grille covers for access to the speakers....but that was just my way. Really I just got fed up with trying to remove the darn thing and popped out the grilles.....hehe.
