I ran my power cable not through the firewall but through the inner fender. the firewall is tucked in under the dashboard so I found an alternative.
right behind the side markers there's a gromet where the harness went inside the car. This is also where the hood release cable and foglight harness went through. I removed the fender liner and pricked a hole through the gromet using a screwdriver. Then ran the cable as you would normally do... Here's a pic of my install... http://www.clubae.proboards104.com/i...ead=1166428579 |

i could be wrong (or blind) but i ended up having to go through the main factory gommet above the accelerator and let me tell you it was not fun if you have to go this route do what someone suggested earlier and use a long screwdriver to punch through the grommet. |

2007 LX sedan. the hole isn't there. there's a cutout in the insulation, but no actual hole.
i went through the same grommet as the main hiring harness. it was a bit of a pain, but once you get a slit on both ends big enough to slide your power cable through, just attach the cable to a straight end of a coat hanger and punch it through. if you get too much resistance pushing through, STOP. remember the main wiring harness for your car is running through here also. |

guess I lucked out, my 06 civic had a hole above the pedal just as in the photos, took some looking but it was hiden there. Then I slipped a metal coat hanger through the hole (after placing a gromet purchased from home depot, they'll have all the sizes you'd need for less than the stereo shop or autozone)toward the engine compartment, taped the power cord to it and pulled it right through. I find fishing wires is always easier with a hanger or as I use for door speaker wire, heavy duty hydraulic grade zip ties, flexible but strong enough to get the cable where you want it to go...

It doesn't look like anyone has replied to this for you yet. I'm getting ready for my subs and amp install still maintaining the factory head unit. There are a couple parts out there to choose from, but I've found that the SVEN4 by Peripheral (google it for the best price) is the best.
It's a line-output converter for OEM integration. It attaches to the stock harness and creates the RCA jacks you need. Hopefully that helps. |

I used a Scosche line out converter and wire tapped the harness using trailer wiring taps as not to cut the factory wiring. I find it's a good quality and also has adjustable gains for all channels allowing easy hook up. I did the same thing in my 2004 accord coupe and it works fine. I picked up the line out converter at walmart for around $25 dollars.

Actaully for LOCs, I've only ever seen high end types recommend David Navone LOCs. http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm
It's what I used to run an amp to my stock unit in my mazda 5 and what I was planning on getting and using in my new civic. I just got the car so I'm trying to figure out where people are wiring the amp to? Are you taking out the dash to get to the back of the HU in order to get the speaker level out? |

I did, and I mounted the loc under the pop out panel under the radio in the little pocket in front of the shifter, it was a pain taking everything out, but I hate hack work. mounting it upside down in the space under the radio allows me to pop the little panal out in the pocket and use a small screwdriver to adjust any gains if I every have to with out ripping my dash apart again. I never cut any wires either, use trailer wire taps to splice into the factory harness, helps later too, when you take everything out to sell it, you dont have to repair anything.

Thanks for the tips. Right now I am looking for a line output convertor, still not sure which one to buy, theres so many. For an enclosure I'd like to have one made for the side of the trunk to save space. Where is everyone mounting their amps?

I'm in my garage right now trying to instal my entire system in my week old sedan and I can't find that hole! I have 1/0g wire and I'm not sure if I can run it. Everything I have is for 1/0 so I'd have to buy all new fuses, cable, grommets, etc for 4g if I can't figure this out.
Also, where is a walkthrough for the center console and rear seat removal? |
