Does anyone know that the stock amp (premium sound) will be able to support aftermarket speakers? The reason I ask is because the magnet size of the stock speaker is tiny while any aftermarket is 5x the size.

It's low-powered but at least more than the typical OEM head unit without an amp.
It's something like maybe a true 12-20 RMS per channel which I'd guess is actually a good bit more than actual real world non-amp'd oem head unit outputs.

I'd imagine a-market speaks that are fairly efficient (90+ db) might work well.. Something like Kappa's maybe? (don't worry about their 2ohm rating.. they heat up to "true" 4ohm per a reply somewhere from Andy at Harman).

x-over

So in the case of using passive crossovers, where has everyone been putting them? (In the front near the speakers in the door or back in the trunk near the amp?

Can someone tell me the depth from the mounting surface, to the back of the panel? I need room for my midbass speakers, they require 4" i believe.

The only significant difference is in how the arm rest comes apart. In the sedan you remove the black plastic part that holds all the buttons and switches. Pull straight up on the back end, the end toward the rear of the vehicle. When it comes loose, slide the assembly back a little bit so the hook at the front end clears the door skin assembly. Then disconnect electrical connectors. From there it's the same as the coupe. Remove screws, etc. Note: to remove the switch/button housing from the arm rest you have to pull like CRAZY. You will probably get sore fingers in the process.

What is the ohm on stock radio?

I have a 2009 LX which is leased so I need to easily return it to stock in three years. The stock speakers need to be up graded but I'm not sure if they are 2 or 4 ohm 6.5" , can anyone provide this info.

I need to be able to quickly install and remove the speakers w/o chaning amp or adding tweeters. Here are my thoughts so far:

If they are 2 ohm I would go with infinity 6022i
if they are 4 ohm I would probably go with Polk 651

Comments suggestions, Thanks

they are 4 ohm
BUT at any time in a lease they can ask for the car back, so i wouldnt bother upgrading the speakers
our stock systems are really not that bad, and if u upgrade the speakers, u will actually downgrade your sound
newer speakers (aftermarket) will always require more power than your stock ones, therefore they will be quieter, and thus making your tonal balance WAY off (esp if you are leaving stock tweeters and rear speakers stock)
trust me on this
leave the stock speakers ;-)

Thank you for the advice. I do not believe that the LX has a front tweeter, which is the reason I'm considering the Infinity Reference 6022i.

I understood that the LX-S and up models have the betteraudio system. My LX usually soundslike there is something missing...the dynamic range appears to be very narrow with little highs and bass. I have tried boosting these but the speakers don't appear to have the capability.

I really would prefer to leave the car stock but every time I listen it sound like there is something missing and I don't want to drive around listening to my ipod with the ear buds .

The infinity Reference 6022i are 2 ohm speakers that I was told should sound good with the stock HU.

Does anyone have first hand experience with these speakers? I was thinking about only changing the front speakers.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks
Dave

Here is another question. Is there a way to get LR channel outputs from the stock head unit? In so doing I'd like to go to an amp and power my aftermarket speakers.
Thank you in advance.

07 LX coupe here
all LXs have a front tweeter on the dash
look at that little grill right in the far corners of the dash ;-)

a little knowledge in audio, ull quickly realize speakers are simply the final media, while there are crappy speakers out there, the ones on our car are NOT
expensive magnets!!!!
the issue? bad amplification
the LX does not have a sub (ex does) that keeps our lows stuck with 6.5" range (about 80hz at BEST as a low)
the LX is internal amplification.. that means about 10-15 RMS per speaker, an aftermarket amp will put out more and have a more dynamic range!!!! (tho our amp does put out 20-20000 hz, it does not have the power nor the drive)

i would just upgrade the dash tweeters, make sure they arent ones designed for alot of power!
a real overhall is what is needed
also u are running an ipod, aka MEDIOCRE quality
pop a mp3 cd in there and u will realize how much better ur car can sound!

those speakers will possibly destroy the head unit, (our speakers are 4ohm!)
too little ohm on an internal amp (in the head unit) means BOOM! lol eventually, not immediately ;-)

again DONT upgrade the speakers
get rid of that damn ipod (get urself a Creative Zen!!!!)
if u need more, u need a real sound system :-)
trust me, i have an LX coupe, no sub, and it does have tweeters!

yes
LX or Ex/si?
lx = need a LOC
Ex/si, just tap into the amp wires and bypass them, they are basically RCAs ;-) wire as an RCA

I have an 2008 LX sedan. So you are saying that there is no way to get RCA outs from the head unit. The only way is to use an LOC? Can anyone recommend a good quality LOC?
I want to install a set of component FOCAL speakers.

sigh
ok a little more knowledge for ya
Focal speakers are only as good as the output
i suggest buying a new headunit and an amp if u are to upgrade the speakers
i dunno how many times i gotta say that lol
speakers are BARELY what matters, its all about the amp and head unit
our headunit puts out alpine quality sound, BUT not Focal quality lol

Unhappy Civic LX for 2009 has only 4 speakers

Thank you! I do appreciate your suggestions, But...

I was pretty sure that my LX did NOT have front tweeters so I went to my local Honda dealer to ask them. They looked up my VIn to determine the specific build data on my car.

The Honda dealer gave me a diagram with all of the audio parts for the 2009 Honda Civic and below the diagram are the specific parts included in my car.

The Front tweeter and rear base speakers plus several other items are NOT included in my car.

Yes, I have the front grill on the upper dash, but there is NO tweeter under the grill.

My dealer sends all audio upgrades to an unaffiliated shop, which is closed on Saturdays, so I could not find out the cost to install the tweeter and wire harness needed to connect it to the head unit, or if my head unit can accomodate the front tweeter.

The Civic LX for 2009 has only 4 speakers: two in the lower front doors and two in the rear deck. I believe that the LX-S may have the 6 speaker system as does the EX.

The LX really does need the tweeter unit and I'm really dissappointed that Honda did not include them in my car

man all the 06-08 LXs have tweeters, and 4 woofers
the ex/si had tweeters, 4 woofers, and a 8" "sub"
the dx has nothing stock lol
there was no LX-S until recently, kinda retarded to be honest
ur head unit most likely does accommodate it
its better if you buy them yourself
for lower end, get a all in one sub unit, something 8 to 10" that will be enough (aka built on amp with sub in box, plus speaker level inputs)
then you wont have to change out any speakers ;-)
