Not an IPOD but....
For those who don't want to cut up their interior, here is an idea I had when I found some spare nylon clamps in the basement....
All parts are scrap from household projects. The holder is ABS pipe cut and glued -cheap and easy to work with. |

When you pay for a monster cable, you're actually paying for the shielding around it. The cable itself is nothing special.

Did this mod yesterday and wanted to offer some more info.
In order to take the cupholder assembly trim/ change tray out, you will need a TINY star bit or a TINY alan wrentch to unscrew two small screws. I bought a knockoff ipod dock from ebay to use instead of the Apple product. On this knockoff, the audio input jack was on the left side of the dock instead of the right (Apple's product). There is a metal unit that has something to do with the ebrake that lines up perfectly with the audio input jack on the knockoff dock when the dock is positioned in the center of the change tray. Because of this, I had to disassemble the entire center console again and cut the hole that the dock slides through about 1/2" larger. Now the dock sits off center (doesn't look bad) but I had to try my best to fill in the 1/2" extended hole I cut. (I Ended up using a combination of electrical tape and audio carpet; doesn't look good) So test fit the best you can before you cut anything. Be careful when reinstalling the center console. The plastic flap that helps bolt down the center console to the front of the shifter assembly snaps off easily. I recommend keeping the aux jack in place and running your audio chord from the aux jack, behind the top shifter/center console panel, and then to the dock. You only see a inch or two of black wiring and it keeps you from having to rig the aux jack cover back in its place. It also gives you the freedom to revert back to stock more easily, and in my opinion, still looks very clean and good. The iPod definetely sounds better when played through the pin connection instead of the headphone jack. The music volume is only affected by the radio volume, not the iPod volume. This is great because I keep my iPod volume real low for work but want it louder for the car ride. The work is worth the output if you plan on keeping the car for a while. Whatever you do, play your iPod through the pin connection instead of the headphone jack. Any questions? |

Seems interesting... I have one question: I have one of the same docks and was considering installing it in my car but i find when i connect my ipod to the dock i have to turn up the volume using the remote. Do you have this problem as well or does you dock remember the volume/keep it turned up to all?

Im sorry to pipe in, but IMO this is one of the more ghetto DIY's that you could do. I mean why cut the hell out of your pristine civic.....and whats more do it with a dremmel and shaky hand! I mean everybody can do what floats their boat, but if you want a nice setup then get an after market head unit that is ipod ready, then get the ipod interface. You can run the cord wherever you want. Sorry to rain on everybody's parade, but this is just my opinion. You would never catch me doing such a botched job to my si.
