They have a pretty good explanation. Take a look and be your own judge.
Crutchfield has a lot of valuable information but I would take the majority of what they say with a grain of salt. I'm not disagreeing with what you've posted, just saying that in the future don't let that be your only source of information. You have to realize they are somewhat biased toward products they sell.

i'm not quite sure. I imagine it wouldn't be much different than this DIY. The only forseeable difference is where you would get a 12v ACC wire from the factory radio. All the rest should be the same, ie. "tapping into the stock sub, etc..."

...any one else know much about the navi version?

I agree with this, only difference should be the ACC wire, which you can just use the fusebox if you'd like to and not go through the hassle of taking the Navi unit out. Fusebox for the win in this situation.

Use a self tapping screw on a piece of the metal near your amp. Sand off the area where the washer or ring terminal will be. Screw down the ring terminal onto the bare shiny metal. Say hello to your new ground with low resistance.

do exactly as he said. I found the best place is behind the carpeting on the pic I had posted *sorry no actual pic of the ground itself*, but behind that carpeting, there is a bare piece of metal perfect for that.

it took a little bit to get the self tapper to go in, but it worked out great, and it's completly hidden out of sight.

Why does everyone on this forum insist on using t-taps? Solder is a superior mechanical and electrical connection. I suggest doing things properly or not doing them at all.

Everyone on this forum doesn't insist on using t-taps.

how much sound quality are you looking to get out a LOC and and factory HU???
i don't think solder is going to make THAT big of a difference in this application.
but I agree, I did solder my ACC wire behind the HU.

If you have a multimeter, you can confirm which wire is truly the remote wire. When I did mine, I removed the center console. There will be two harneses. One on the left (smaller) and one on the right. The left has a light blue with a stripe wire. This is the remote on wire.

Again though, make sure to use a multimeter to verify this. Always feels good to know for sure.

Thanks for the info. Anyone have a pic of this wire?

i won't have it up here by tomorrow, but the best thing is like he said earlier.

Use a multimeter to check and see which wire it is. Put the positive end into the socket which you think is the ACC wire, and the negative end to ground. Swich on the cars ignition, and if it reads 0v when the car's off, and about 12v when it's on, then you know. I'm almost positive it's light purple w/ a silver stripe.

I've seen some say blue, some purple...and when I used a meter to the purple w/ silver it was the ACC wire. i've had my set up for about a year now w/ no problems.

I could totally be wrong here, but i'm trying to think really hard which one I used.

I will update this post and put more detail soon, don't worry, i just need some time.

I guess im confused the the "center console." There is wiring in the center console? or are you talking behind the HU?

thank you for this DIY... saved me $300+tax on an install and was able to spend a little more on equipment.

i was confused and being new to car electronics and modifications i was a little hesitant with slicing into unknown territory, so i went ahead and searched for "acc fuse 12v" on this website and found an easy way to complete this step:

*** Then a remote wire...
*** I just removed the factory HU to get an ACC wire(use this thread)
*** http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3534

Check out this thread (post #7):

* Where the 12V locate?

you really only need to follow step 1 and 2 on that post.

it's a little confusing @ first, and the pictures are missing on that post... just do the following:

1.) remove fuse #35 from the fusebox located right above dead floor pedal on drivers side.

2.) insert a mini "add-a-circuit" with two 7.5 fuses included in the kit, or buy an extra one just in case. the 7.5 fuse inside the fusebox will not work... you need to use the kind that come with the kit.

3.) run the ACC wire thru the left hand side drivers section how you see fit.

4.) enjoy!

thanks to gulfcoastghosthunters for the DIY... it works
