trust me, it sounds fine.. my buddies been hearing my system and they say it sounds pretty decent. im only pushing like 350watt rms to a JL W3 12".. it'll deffinately sound better with an aftermarket deck.. i think im gonna go get a deck instead of that exhaust i want. or both:P

Amp install (to subs & radio)-$0.00, 4-gauge amp kit $30, RCA Converter (to be used with factory radio) $10 Total :$40.00..how it sounds : it sound decent for a stock deck. I have 3 10s in my 08 si. I used my stick deck so you wouldnt be able to tell i have a sytem by looks alone.

yep. your tapping the wires from the stock sub with a line out converter. it has nothing to do with the HU

You can control the bass if u hook up your line out converter to your stock subwoofer instead of the right and left speaker. I say this because I did in my car. Its an easy install and you dont have to touch the stock radio at all. If u have any more questions just ask me

Ok, I'm about to do this tomorrow (sunday) or monday, I have the amp kit all wired in, my BIG question is where do I run my remote wire? I was looking at another DIY and it said something about tying it into the ACC wire. I'm gonna try this but if it does not turn off when the car/hu is off then I'll just go to the #35 fuse in the fuse box, since every DIY says to go that route.

I have an EX with subs installed to the Stock head unit, I can still controll the Bass on the car, it just depends on how you install it. It took me and my friend a while to get it but we got it and it works, I just need a capasitor and then I'll reconnect my stock sub also. =)

Ok, just an update for anyone still doing this.......I've had my setup for a while now and I just used the LOC and connected it to the stock sub and I can control the bass from stock HU and the amp turns off when the car turns off or when I turn off the radio. I really don't see any fuss about it anymore. I have had ZERO problems! One thing that I did do for the remote wire was go to autozone and buy the "fuse link/fuse piggyback", it was like $1 or something like that and attached it to the #35 fuse.....located at the driver side left foot, you'll have to move your seat all the way back to lay down on your back to see it. "So easy a caveman can do it"......LOL, PM me if you need help, anyone.

Thanks for the info, my08yes. I had a shop do pretty much the same thing. I just told them I wanted an aftermarket sub in my 09 EX sedan and they installed a lower-end Powerbass 12'' Sub/Enclosure and bolted a PB amp to the rear of my enclosure. It takes up about 1/4 my trunkspace. They used a LOC and it sounds decent.
I can control the Bass through my stock HU, too. However, they told me not to turn it above Bass3, or else I risk blowing the sub. That's fine with me because I'm a bass lover and surprisingly I keep my Bass at level "C" aka 0, and most my music sounds fine.

I find that if I turn my Bass above level 2 on my stock HU, the sub just completely overpowers the vocals and every other sound coming from the 4 stock 6.5'' speakers, and everything else sounds muddy if you know what I mean. That's why my bass is usually set at 0 or 1 with my setup.

This makes me want to upgrade my 4 stock midrange speakers though...they are just so muddy and unclear since the aftermarket sub dominates the scene . I want to keep the stock HU, but I assume I'd still need a new amp(s) to power those new speakers, plus another wiring kit or fuses or something. I don't know anything about audio.

I just ran my remote wire from my amp to the LOC and it turns on/off when the radio does

i ran my remote to 12v outlet, so it turns on amp with ignition. i didn't wanna buy fuse taps or anything. whole setup was cheap and installed myself. keep bass and sub at "C" on stock HU and properly tuned my amp.

Can you guys explain to me what is meant by a "remote" as far as your applications are concerned? My amp has a "remote" port but I'm not sure what that refers to. My aftermarket trunk sub enclosure is hooked up to a LOC and then to my HU and I control everything via stock HU, and the "remote" port on my sub's amp (bolted to the enclosure) is not in use. Enlighten me =D.

the "remote" = remote turn on. it turns on your amp with a 12v power source either when you turn the ignition on, or when you turn your radio on, however it is hooked up.

No prob man, well, I also installed 6.5" pioneer 3-ways for all 4 stock speakers, sounds much better! I get a lot better mids and highs from them and nothing sounds "muddy". Try swapping those out, I'm sure you'll hear the difference......I also keep the bass at "c" or "0", anything else higher than that is unnecessary, well at least for me but, if I want that extra little bass, I put my ipod touch setting from hiphop to bass booster. I'm running 2 10" type E alpines with a small amp. Sounds great and the best thing is that I have none to minimal vibration from the trunk/wing/license plate, can't stand that noise!

GL man!
