Angry my Oil Filler Cap problem

Guys I'm in deep shit right now. For some reason (and that has to be a damn good reason), my Oil Filler Cap is missing! When I was about to park my FD, I noticed a burning smell and a deep hum was coming from the engine. When I popped up the hood, Tada! Oil splattered all around! I noticed right away that my oil filler cap was not where it's supposed to be. Darn it! I called Honda Philippines and they told me to wait for 3 weeks because they would have to order it overseas. Wtf am I gonna do now. I need this car. Is there anyway that I can probably use a temporary cap? Is there pressure in the engine that might blow a tempo cap?

The thing that bothers me is that how the hell did the filler cap pop out? I had an oil change 4 months ago and since then no one was messin' with my engine.

Hope you guys can help me... i need an oil filler cap... darn it. :)

Im sure the honda dealership would have one. Maybe find one online or at a parts store.

how did that happen?

There are some people from Team FD who have changed their oil caps.
Have you registered in the site Team FD Official Website
Post in the Looking For section.

Thanks paolo! Will check that site.

For the meantime, I tried to use a temporary cap. Found something in our attic that fit just right. Are there gonna be any issues like high temps melting a temporary plastic cap or sumthin?

I already called Honda Alabang (our dealer) but they told me that I really had to wait for a few weeks because there are no caps available in the Philippines.

Btw, I added a liter of oil this afternoon. I'll just bring it to the gas station tomorrow for an oil change. Or should I wait for my cap? Hmmmm...

Now... will a typical engine wash remove all the oil in the engine bay?

imho, if you can't get the OEM oil cap, go and get the aftermarket oil caps now. there are a lot of sellers offering these. if you want the OEM, then you can go to Banawe also to look for them.
don't let your engine be subjected to such conditions.

this is the price list in one of the threads there (i'm not the seller) just to give you an idea.
Spoon Oil Cap: 3.8K
Mugen Oil Cap: 4.2k

I think a proper engine wash should take care of most of the oil. The remaining oil will probably burn out eventually under normal driving.

Lesson here is to check every oil, radiator, reservoir, window washer and brake fluid cap as part of your daily (or weekly) inspection or whenever the engine bay is open. I need to include this into my checklist as well.

That's right. Good lesson learned for me as well. I never checked oil filler caps before. Now I will...

I agree. The prices are . I never realized they were priced that high. I'd rather wait for the OEM cap and save my money for an oil and filter change.

after market oil cap is not cheap here in america your looking for $50 and up

mugen cap is around $75 i believe

moral of the story try to check everything on your engine whenever you open it or claen it up. I open mine 1 once a week most of the time and clean the whole engine bay and check stuff.

but seriously where did the oil cap go p.s. next time tighten it all the way

No friggin idea where that darn oil cap went. I did not hear a thud while driving...or maybe cuz I was liznin to my music so loud I didn't notice it.

i guess it could be the mechanic's fault who last serviced my car at Honda. Maybe he wasn't able to tighten the cap, and after months of drivin it finally gave out.

what scares me the most is internal damage to the engine. sure hope i will never hear any knocking sounds in the future. lost quite a lot of oil, but the oil indicator lamp did not light.

i read in some forums that a problem with the pistons or gaskets can cause an oil filler cap to pop out. but i guess since my baby is just a year old, i don't think that'll be the case.

and yeah, i really hope that OEM cap will arrive soon. this really sucks.
