Oh, someone did import FD1 and FD2 (not FD2R) but that's really a joke, and i think no one interest in that car as well the point is, for the money it costs to import a FD1 or FD2, you can buy a lot of other cars..... |

I know it is expensive to own a car in Hong Kong, not because of the car's price tag. But the expenses along with the car...like parking and stuff..
Approximately how much are you paying for all your expenses, and specify them Ronnn. |

I'm not sure of the details, but essentially it depends on past experiences. Let's say a car is produced here and sold here, and you decide to import it from Japan brand new instead (GTR for example), then the gov tosses a huge tax on it on top of the car price (kinda like anti-dumping?).
If for example it's a used car, over 3 years old, and an equivalent isn't easy to find in HK (e.g. Skyline 350GT Coupe, aka G35) then the price drops by a lot where it might actually be close to buying used in HK. |

around HKD 1500 for gas each month <---i don't drive to work, my car is only for fun and then another 3500 a month for parking (included my place and going out for shopping) or...it should mention lic fee in HK is a lot more expensive than Canada, since it depends on the car displacement, for a 1600cc-2500cc car, we are paying near $6K per year and, insurance is expensive for high risk car too I am paying around $3000 for full coverage per year. But if i am drving a FD2R (which i quoted before), it costs $18000 per year Last edited by Ronnn; 02-13-2009 at 11:52 AM. |

And, there're actually some people go directly to Japan and buy a used car over there and ship to HK But, by doing this, you should expect to pay around 60% on top of the car price just for shipping and lic fee For new car, importer only import models that aren't avaliable in HK since it doesn't make any sense to buy a 'private import' when you can buy directly from the dealer. (ofcoz i mean when they are about the same price) Just like if you guys are in Toronto, it doesn't make sense to import a Honda from US, the price may be a little cheaper, but you lose all the warranty. that's why those importer only sell JDM model there're a lot of 'trick' when buying an import car, that's why i try to stay away with it unless i really really want that model Last edited by Ronnn; 02-13-2009 at 11:48 AM. |

It's funny
when I was in Toronto back in 90s, the choices of cars were so limited until late 90s, we finally have DC2R and Civic Sir.....no, hatchback Civic (with B16 engine), no WRX, no Evo, no GTR, nothing at all but in HK, they had everything....from 660 turbo to huge power N/A and Turbo cars... but...once I back to HK, I want to back to Canada for cars.... you guys have CSX-S....Civic Si....RSX-S, TSX......EVO, STi WRX.....so many choices yes, we had Type R model, but as I mentioned before, if I have a choice, I don't prefer private import |

but the difference between a Type S or Si and a CTR/Accord-R/ITR you guys have speed and luxury in one package for us, if we want fast, we will never get the luxury of a sunroof...which i love it soooo much that's one of the reason that, even i have money, i may not consider FD2R or CL7R Alphard is good, and a lot of them are modded..... the sport version 'Vellfire' <---don't know if the spelling is correct or not is all the way past HKD500K..... Yes there are... and they're SLAMMED when people mod them. For some reason, with Odysseys it's either all or nothing.
I wouldn't say that they look good though. I can never tell whether it's a Stream or an Odyssey coming my way. But then I think they did a test of trackability vs sportiness in looks on BMI, and the Odyssey won 1st or 2nd out of 5 MPVs in its drive... |
