I dislike BMW, just on the principle that they rake in higher profit margins based on brand-name prestige alone. That, and parts/maintenance is much pricier than Honda. Not buying the "affordable BMW" mantra when the thing still costs $25-30k.

They can charge what they do because people will pay it. All car companies do that. They build a car, and whatever works out to the most profits (either a lot of people buying the car for a little less or a few less buying for a little more) is what they charge.
I owned a e36 325i for four years, and I have to say it was a hell of a car. I liked the feel of it more than the Si. It was just getting up in the miles and was having a few problems after a wreck.
