How about a Newbie forum?

Thought about this after responding to a "what is a cat-back" question and "what to tire sizes mean" question.

I've been around auto forums since I turned 16. When I bought a Chevy Cavalier I joined www.j-body.org. If you go there and click on "forums" on the left hand side you'll see a drop down menu of all the forums on the site. Under "General Stuff" is the newbies forum. It's a great forum for people who are new to the auto scene. In there people who know their way around a car help new comers learn from making clear climate control knobs to finding the best insurance company. It's kind of a free for all but it's great for people who are learning. People cover all the knowledge one would need to know about basic car mods.

This creates more space in the other forums for more advanced questions.

that's really what the entire forum is for. Anyone can ask any question on the site and it should be answered. If a mod needs to move the thread or help out - that's why we're here.

Anyone should feel free to ask whatever - Without asking - you'll never know.

Yea but instead of flooding forums with the "usual" newbbie questions..why not have a section dedicated to them?

I mean we have sections dedicated to everything else...detailing..car audio...ect ect...

By your method it should be an open forum with no specialized talking points...

I vote newbie forum.

+1

+ Have a video forum and a FOUND IT ON THE WEB forum. Those 2 are always really popular.

As the same with other forums. However with a beginners forum you have all your basic questions under one roof.

For instance. I'm a total noob when it comes to electrical forums. Part of me wants to flood the lighting and I.C.E forums with questions I KNOW are probably as simple as someone asking "what is a C.A.I?" With a noob forum, you could have all your basic electrical/wiring/what does this part do?/how do I shave an emblem? questions. Therefore in the Lighting forums you'll have your more advanced how-to's for HID conversions and more extensive wiring questions. In the Getting Faster forums you'll have questions more intricate then "what is a high flow cat?".

If you choose not to I won't be offended. Just though it could be a way to clean up the forums and make it even more catagorized.

And what Ethlar said is true. If your a noob it's nice to go into a noob forum and see all your basic questions already answered.

That's what the "search" feature is for.

The search feature? Please, who uses that thing?! Searching for previous posts was sooooo 2002. Re posting the same thing over and over again is totally in style.

I actually like the idea of having FAQs in one thread. Or maybe just one post. Have an index post like in the DIY section. We can have a n00b take on that task. jc21, you're the guy to get it done.

I resent that n00b comment sent at my direction. I have you know I am a SENIOR MEMBER now thank you very much. None the less if it came down to the fact where you needed someone to manage a message board i'll do the newbie forum.

And with the search button. Yes you could use the search button but many people who are new to modding, are also new to forums and either A: don't know the search button exists, or B: don't know how to use it (I know, I know you wouldn't think so but then again... that's why their calls noobs).

As with the video/found it on the web forum. I'm not sure how this format of a forum works but the j-body forum had really high bandwith costs. Which is mainly why if you wanted more than 100 posts a month there was a fee.

Sorry to get you all riled up there jc21. Didn't meen to call you a n00b. It's just that since you started the thread, I'd figure you could do the leg work. And of course, I'm joking about that, too!

Oh you're just upset because the lack of smokes is making you edgy.

I won't retract my statement. What I said is what I said. I will apologize for being an ass, but won't erase what I wrote.

I did say I was joking, right?
