question about vbb...

k...this is a question for the admin, or anyone else who knows some admin stuff on vbulletin...but how u get a section to be hidden like the VIP section? else, how could u set a permission where if u have 100 posts, etc, it will automatically give u access to a forum?

just curious....i've been trying to set up a section that requires a post count and time as a member in order to see...but haven't figured it out...the promotion thing didn't work on my vbulletin. =/

any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

you need to do more than just set up the promotion. To do what you are asking you'd have to go into the admincp:

You'd need to create a new usergroup and name it whatever you want. This usergroup will be used once the members reach the # of posts or reputation/ or whatever you set up to enter that forum. So after you create that usergroup go into

-forums and moderators. -

-forum permisssions: - then find your forum on the right that you want to make only for people to view once they reach your criteria. Click on the "edit" next to the usergroup for that forum you created.

make sure the settings are yes on as many items as you'd like. Remember - this will be like normal posting for them - so set them like any standard forum that a person could post in. = Save it.

Then go to every single other usergroup for that forum and set their settings to: can view - YES - everything else - NO. Obviously you'd have to keep mods/admin/ etc able to see it. All other usergroups would have be be set to "can see" - yes, but everything else on the list - no. This will allow the forum to show itself on the list, but threads to not be viewable.

Then, like you said - you'd need to create a promotion for that usergroup. Go into the promotions and set up the # of posts etc needed to enter that group. People will automatically enter that group when they reach that post count and will be able to see/post in that forum. Others will just be able to see the forum.

That should do it for ya.

that thread will help you with the coding if you want to make the post count show up. Otherwise it will always show a "0" as post counts in that forum.
