You can't (with VBulletin Software) restrict rep based on topic, content, how many per day , (add in most of the requests made by users).

It's simply a popularity contest that gets abused period. If you spend a ton of money on your car...mad rep. If you hate JDM...Neg rep from hell...

It's not needed.

While i generally agree with your post about rep in general... i question your knowledge on VBulletin's capabilities seeing as you CAN restrict how many reps one can make per day. The restriction was set to 10, then right before they removed it, it was set to 1. This was noted by dentrecords a few posts ago...

I think 3 is a fair compromise.
As for the other things, I dont know if they can be done...

You know i just thought of something. other people from other sites are probably reading this too and they are laughing their asses off at us because we are in here crying about Rep points and want it to be put back on.

I really want my rep back though.

I meant limiting by day based on other restrictions, sorry incomplete sentence. As for knowing Vbulletin...I'm doing alright. I managed to at least get an arcade on K-series.com in 3.6.8 which hasn't been done here yet. :)

Here is my thought on rep.......

Its just another icon to clutter my avatar area. Who cares. Doesnt mean anything. If you want to rep someone for helping them...how about the old fashioned way. Take the time to send some kind words via a PM. After all, its much nicer if its more personable.
My thoughts on Rep---- Not a big deal.

from the reputation guide post....

"The reputation system is intended to recognize a member when they have posted content that contributes to the community in a positive manner."

so.....
Except what is "positive" is abstract. Your "resident si sedan hater hater" is humorous. Humor is positive. Hence rep. My point still stands.

i posted this last night in a thread that was locked..

maybe...have a system where we dont keep track of rep by points or a metering system by our username, but in our user CP, we can just see who is giving us some rep, so we know we are acknowleged and can feel special!

well...you know...other than actually just POSTING it i guess...which technically would be the same thing except for that only you could see it and it would keep track of it all in one section...

I totally agree.

Actually, no. It isn't. If it were, you'd be able to put swastikas on George W. Bush's pictures and freely post them up on The White House's official website without repercussion.

Obviously you didn't pay enough attention in school. It should read "Too many rules."

I say keep the rep private, and allow only the mods and VIP to see/spread it.
