Was this giving rep for stupid things like "hey guys" a problem with non-VIP people? I remember talking to someone on here, and after he went VIP, he told me how he kept getting rep for saying pointless things in threads. That never really happened to me so I'm just wondering if it was a VIP-specific thing

Thanks---no Rep

Some sites offer a tab inwhich the member can press to THANK the subscriber if the comment HELPED. Just an idea!

Rep in general is silly to me but i had a lot on this site which is cool. I always got it for pictures i posted so thats cool. I don't really know how it could be abused but ok. Anyway its gone move on.

I know alot of people abuse the rep system, but others like me that have been a member here for more than 2 years and i was just on my 3rd yellow dot, it was hard to see the dots go, i rarely gave rep, and rarely receive it unless i help someone or my post was helpfull.

I do hate to see it go, but o well what can i do.

I think the rep use to separate the new members from the ones that have been here for a while, and like me that took me 2 year to get to the 3 yellow dots, and now i look just like every other new guy that joins this forum.

But its cool, i think most people know me for my ride and not my rep anyways.

I agree with you on this. For me sometimes, the rep bar could helped me who I should go to in the future for example

Highrev1- Suspension
RaskyR1- Detail
NitrousG35- Nitrous
JeShua- Photography
Sickyute- Ajp turbo, JDM/CDX conversion

And the list goes on.

Although most of us already know who to go to, the new members doesn't. Which could help them.

this is the best idea ever. why don't we do this?

or just leave it without rep. i'm not going to lie, i enjoyed rep too, but not for the little colored dots under my name. legit validation is a good thing. life is just a quest for validation anyways... validation from yourself and from others. you can have validation without making it visible to the public! all that matters are the specific comments made to you.

...so... whaddya say mods. this makes complete sense. it really does.

rep never told you that highrev1 was a god at suspension. his posts did, not his rep. you had to read his posts. quick glance at the rep didn't tell you anything. many members here had ridiculously high rep, didn't mean they were necessarily helpful in any way.

I personally liked the rep system. It's just one more thing that made 8th civic appealing. I thought it was cool that someone repped me for a good or funny post. That someone else validated it. I dunno. Some people just didn't care and thought it would be fun to see how many 8 balls they could get. Bummer. Mass punishment FTL.
This is exactly how i feel.

i think rep was a great idea if it was used sparingly. i only repped people occasionally and if i truly felt they made a contribution to the community. I think it was a great way to reward people who did a d.i.y, did research to help another member, went out of their way to help someone, etc.

I think it was a great way of thanking people for a worthwhile post, or for contributing to the site.

i only repped someone every few days probably, so i think if it would be limited to a certain number of reps per days or whatever that would work, but their will always be abusers. But it was good to rep people like sickyute, blue rocket, blueroadster, exalibur, redshiftchris, highrev1, etc. the people who always seem to be there to answer a question or shed some light on a topic.

either way, i would love to have rep back , but i understand the difficulties with it. Good luck mods with whatever you guys decide to do, and thank you for maintaining the 8th =]

If removal of the rep system was due to abuse by people who had the highest rep (as claimed by a few already), then why weren't those individuals addressed? They should have been easy targets to go after... right?

I believe the abuse was occuring at all levels. It would be like saying only people with high performance cars break the speeding laws, and Prius drivers are law abiding citizens.

To me, this is like the speeding has gotten too out of hand, and there aren't enough cops to catch everybody. So now nobody is allowed to drive anymore.
