and this thread is bound to be deleted or locked soon.

Ive had mods tell me to edit stuff before. I guess to each his own. I have no issues doing so. This site has taught me so much and I have met (in person) great ppl. Its like a myspace of cars. Anyway... its whatever. This site gets me thru my day at work. No issue following some family friendly rules here

uh oh... i'm human do u see how easy it is for someone to take a thread off topic... i'm not even gonna lie, it was just a natural response to a question i saw on the post...

but the fact that u intentionally posted something off topic would always get deleted... occasional slip-ups like my most recent one u pointed out would get overlooked... and the original off topic part will get edited/deleted out...

btw... (another off topic response, now that i'm aware of it) muaahaha i don't really need ur votes i can edit the polls (no ****) anyways

it usually comes down to the Mod whos overseeing any thread at any moment some mods take certain liberties and some dont. I find some of the stuff a problem myself but i would really like it if mods would point out that they edited something and let people know they did.

Damn... Your losing it.

You have to set the example huh? Using the word "****" is a bit touchy isn't it? There is a few homosexuals here that could take offense to that....

Oh, or were you just giving some examples as I did earlier?

lol, I don't see anything that was sexual in a *** way with what you just said though...

The mods on this site basically have one main job. They have to ensure that people keep reading and posting on this forum, since that's really how/why it exists.
In order to ensure this, they have to find a fine line between letting offensive material go, which may turn people away from the site, and being too "nazi" about the content, which may have the same negative "poster migration" effect.

It's a tough gray area most of the time, and people have to understand that.
Just remember the main point: This is a FREE site where you can get more information about your car (and cars in general) than a $5000 community college tuition would teach you. If you can't control the controversial content in your posts, the don't post! I've been here since April and half my posts are in "Ottawa civic owners", but I do read a lot of the posts on this forum and like the fact that I don't have to scroll through useless flame posts (most of the time) because of the fine job the mods are doing.

now ur just nit picking... the best way to monitor sum1 would be to just click on that user and "Find posts by user" then u can find out what they posted & where they posted it...

if u want find every single post from me and post it here... so i can be put on trial here...

trust me i've even had my posts edited by another mod... heck i've even had my whole profile edited to nothing... no pic, sig, etc... initially i was upset... but after about a minute i realized that i am a part of someone elses site and i need to respect the rules no matter how i felt...

and it's not a matter of submitting into the higher authority... it's just about how humble of a person u can be to something that u should be fortunate to be a part of...

and i know as u read that u or someone is thinking "this site is not my life and it doesn't matter if i'm a part of it or not... etc, etc, etc...." all that shows to others is how u really are as a person... b/c like sum1 mentioned earlier u can be one way online and at the meets be a completely different person... IMO i weigh the online stuff more than the meeting in person stuff for the simple fact that u can ACT different in person... but online there's nothing holding u back to go off on sum1... and that there shows who u are and what u are thinking...

members that lash out against rules IMO would just get the BAN instantly... that's one of the reasons i don't want to move up on the Mod ladder...

I was the one that said that. I think it got deleted by one of the mods, but the context I used it in was far different from what you are thinking.

Your thinking that when I said that, that that meant I had no respect towards anyone here or the rules. I think. Which is not the case.

It was a response to one of the other guy's who made a statement about me loosing my rank here as a "Senior Member" like that really mattered in my life or ego.

I mentioned that too.

You know, I didn't think of it that way till you mentioned that and I agree... But you can't fully judge a person by the way they act online. Some people act out in fantasy online that they would never think about in the real-world due to morals or whatever. And they do act so just to see what it would be like in that situation to see what it would be like without worrying about being resented or critisized by people they know in the real-world. It's curiosity of the unknown.

But that is a good view.

Thanks to Ethlar for answering my questions. If mods want to do their modding thats grand and what they're here for, but please if the content of a post is edited by someone other than the OP can you please include a note saying its been edited by a mod because it is a genuine misrepresentation of a person's words/thoughts/sentiment to not do so.

Bold for emphasis added by me.
See thats all thats needed, simply indicates that the post is no longer as the author originally wrote it. Job done.

Sorry been a busy day, just got home from work, I'll continue to reply as I work my way back through this thread. The post I include in the example here, was my post in that thread it was edited by a mod and I subsequently said if "you" (referring to the mod) are going to manipulate my post then please delete it and mine and a few others look to have been deleted

The value of the cars is only important in as much as establishing what that makes available. He could have had a list of $10k or less bangers and it wouldn't make any difference in how I regarded what he was doing, it would just limit the options. Establishing the Vette/S4 as a ceiling, meant that one of the cars I suggested was a used E60 M5 which can be had for the price of a new Vette/S4 and if he is genuinely interested in getting a new car of a 'sporting' variety and will or had driven other sport saloons, how can he skip what many people regard as the creme de la creme of the sports saloons?

Hardly. I've raised a genuine, valid point about misrepresenting someone and also about mod's modding their own threads. I'm hardly stirring.

That is a party line response If I don't think it's inappropriate and its still edited then what?

i know who/what u were talking about... meaning i know u weren't directing that comment to the site... but just saying something like that can be interpreted as "Hey this site is not my life, like it is yours" basically calling that member out as if they have no life outside the ocho...

as Mods we have to think about these things when a member posts it... and to us that would be a threat to the peace we try to keep...

i don't judge ppl period... but if i were to look at it i would have to say that how they ACT online is really how they feel about something... and when in person they put up a front...

kinda like when ur at work and if u had a boss u didn't like... u would talk so much trash to co-workers but once that boss came around u changed the subject really quick and hope the boss didn't hear what u were just talking about...

also part of my job outside of 8thcivic is to open pplz mindz up to a different way of thinking... instead of this brainwashed stuff they get from the television or music...
