8thcivic.com Rules

The following rules apply to all members of 8thcivic.com. They are instated to ensure a well-run board and to embrace meaningful discussions related to the civic

1. No vendor advertising unless you are registered as a vendor with our site. This includes but is not limited to threads, posts, avatars, and signatures. For advertising information please contact the site administrator.

2. Before posting a question, please conduct a search for an answer.

3. Absolutely no postings of nudity or sexually explicit materials. This site is "work friendly" and any images or avatars deemed unacceptable will be removed.

4. The moderators and administrators of 8thcivic.com have the right to edit/open/close/move/delete any thread or post.

5. Posting in all CAPS is forbidden. If the majority of a message is determined to be made up of CAPS it will be deleted and the user will be warned.

6. Circumventing the inappropriate language filter is forbidden. Repeat offenders will be banned.

7. No bashing vendors, shops, or other websites without just cause. 8thcivic.com reserves the right to determine when just cause has been proven, so all complaints should be sent to our staff for evaluation. If you don't like it and haven't talked to our staff about it, don't post.

8. 8thcivic.com is an English-speaking forum. The contents of every message SHOULD be written with proper English. If you have been warned and the content is not corrected within 24 hours, your message will be deleted. The international forums are allowed to use some native language but entire threads may not be in a language other than English.

9. Post subjects should give an honest description of the content inside. This information should either be included in the subject or description line. Furthermore, subjects and messages should not have any derogatory comments towards any race, gender, sexuality, ethnic background, or age.

10. All issues with members should be taken up by email or through the use of our pm system. If you like, you may contact a moderator or staff member to mediate.

If someone has made an offensive post, or is violating the site rules, rather than starting/participating in an argument, please click the report bad post button on the left hand side of the post in question. This alerts staff members to the situation and we can take appropriate actions. If you choose to participate in a public flame war/argument rather than doing this, you may be on the receiving end of a reprimand rather than a thank you note.

11. Flaming will not be tolerated for any reason. Users who verbally assault other posters on a regular basis will be banned. Name-calling is not acceptable. Moderator's judgment applies here. "You are wrong" is not a personal attack; "You are an idiot" is. Forum-wide abuse of this rule will result in the enforcement of the Zero-tolerance policy found here.

12. New Topics should be posted in the correct forum with an accurate description. Topics posted in the wrong forum will either be moved or deleted without moderator notification. If you continue to post messages in the wrong forum, you will be warned. If you cannot locate your thread, view your started threads in your profile. If it is not listed it was deleted.

13. Our tech forums are here to answer important technical questions pertaining to the civic. The quality of the content is very important, thus questions lacking technical merit will either be deleted or moved.

15. When replying to a thread in ANY of our tech forums, the poster should have at least one of the following: additional content pertaining to the subject, a related technical question. Replies with useless, unrelated comments or questions will be deleted.

16. No cross posting allowed. Do not copy the text from your new thread to another thread in a different forum. You may copy the link to your first thread and post that in another forum if you feel that the topic is related. The goal is to prevent two discussions on the same topic at the same time.


17. The For Sale forum is for contributing members of the site. In order to sell or buy anything in the Marketplace you must have at least 30 posts. All "For Sale" threads must be posted in the Marketplace only, all other threads will be deleted. Please read the rules that are stickied in that forum.

18. "Low Balling" in the Marketplace is not allowed. This includes comments on price, where to get it cheaper or any inflammatory remarks. 21. Multiple screen names is strictly forbidden. Any member found to be posting under two screen names will be banned for a minimum of 7 days and the additional accounts will be removed. Any repeat offense of this rule will result in a permanent ban of the member.


Members that violate these rules will typically be warned. If the offense is repeated then they may be banned for a time determined by the administrators and moderators.

Keep it on topic. Warnings have previously been issued for racist and ignorant comments, and further action will be taken to those that can't show basic decency towards one another.

If someone has made an inappropriate comment, PLEASE ALERT US!!! All you need to do is click on the Report Bad Post button beside the post and it sends an e-mail to us to take a look. Another alternative is to send a Private Message to a staff member regarding the situation.

If you try to argue with them and participate in a public fued, you might be on the receiving end of a warning (or worse) rather than being thanked and recognized for your help in diffusing the situation.

I am having difficulties posting a for sale thread.. Why is this?

Internet Explorer Users - read below.

Firefox Users - scroll down a little while.

For other browsers, it's usually very similar to these instructions below. PM me if you are having any problems getting on to 8thcivic.


Internet Explorer Instructions
In internet explorer, go to www.google.com
1.at the top go to "tools"



at the dropdown - go to "internet options"

the below window will pop open. On the general tab click - delete cookies When you get the prompt -"do you want to delete - click ok"


After you've done this - click ok at the bottom of this popup window. Then close out of Internet Explorer, and reopen it again. This time navigate back to:

www.8thcivic.com, and at the top log back in with your user name/ password and click the box "remember me" - then click "log in"



This should resolve any issue you may have with logging in or getting kicked off of 8thcivic.

Firefox Users



For Firefox users, the process is very similar.
point your browser to www.google.com
at the top - "tools"


options - you'll get the below popup window. Click "privacy" at the top.


Click the Clear now button on that page.

It will open a new window yet again giving you options on what you'd like to clear. All you need to clear is cookies. Put a check mark next to it and click the clear private data now button.


After you click that - it'll take you back to the previous image. Just click "ok" at the bottom.

Close out of firefox, and restart it. Then go to www.8thcivic.com
at the top right you should see the login/pw "remember me" box as displayed above for Internet Explorer. Insert your user name, password, click the remember me box, and click log in.

All you need is a free acct to post in the majority of the site. Once you register an acct, you'll need to click the activation link sent to you through email. Once you've clicked the activation link in the email, you can post topics and reply to topics on 8thcivic.

and take a few minutes to read through the various forum categories. This will help you to understand where your specific topic needs to be posted.





The best thing to do is to actually do a search on the site to see if someone else has already asked the same question you may have.





Click search and in the first box you can place your search on 8thcivic. A list of threads that relate to the keywords you search on will be displayed. Take a few minutes to read through some of these threads to see if your question can be answered. If you can find a thread that you can post additional questions on the topic - add on to the pertaining thread by posting a reply.

If you need to start a new thread, follow the instructions below.

Enter the forum category that you think makes the most sense. For this example we're making a post in the detailing forum. This is what you should see entering:



Click New Thread and it will open a new window where you can create a subject line, and the body of the message just as you would type an email. The more specific you are with your subject lines, the better the site will continue to grow with information. Vague subject lines like - "what is wrong with my car" doesn't help someone searching the site. Rather, "Help me repair these paint scratches on my car" is much more specific and beneficial.

That way if someone searches about "paint scratches" - your thread will then show up on their search, and may be beneficial to their problem.

The other benefit to posting relevant subject lines, is that it helps reduce the number of repeating questions - if the users USE the search button first. Having 300 topics on "what intake should I buy" gets rather monotonous, and obviously gets irritating toward some members answering the same questions repeatedly.

Click manage attachments and it will open a new window for you. It will have the option for you to browse for 3 files on your pc to upload, or the URL to the file online that you'd like to upload. VIP members are able to create a customized signature to follow their posts with, however for the sake of other members we do place a restriction on the content of their signatures.

The limits are as follows:

One image that is no larger in dimensions than 450x130 pixels and also no larger by file size than 30kb. If you need help creating an image that meets these restrictions you can request assistance in the photoshop subforum. If you are using photoshop you can use the image optimization utility or save for web and devices option to alter the quality of the image to meet the limits.

In addition to the image you can include up to 2 lines of text or quotes.


If your sig image or overall content exceeds these limits the staff may remove your sig and send you a PM.

8thcivic For Sale Forum Rules


Start your post with the appropriate Subject Prefix in the subject field to verify what your sale thread is about…

FS: For Sale
WTB: Wanted to Buy
FT: For Trade Only
NIB: New in Box

Examples of a good sale post's subject:

FS: Graphite 17" Wheels, slightly used
WTB: New or used APEXi SAFC
FT: AEM SRI for 06+ Si (NIB)


Please be as descriptive as possible in your sale posts. Price MUST be included in all for sale threads. If you're selling your Civic you must also include the VIN.


ALL threads in the For Sale section must include at least one accurate picture of good quality of the item(s) for each sale or trade.

The picture must also include a legible sign with the following information:

• Your User Name
• 8thcivic.com
• Today's Date

Example:

• Photo(s) must be included at initial time of posting. No, "I'll post a picture later" excuses
  
• Must be separate and actually on a piece of paper. No photoshop or paint text allowed on top of your picture.
  
• When a member is selling several items or multiple items, like wheels or anything that goes in sets, pictures must be taken with each individual item by itself showing any damage.
  
• Each and every part/cable/component that comes with it is required to be in the photo(s). The exception to that rule would be if the item(s) clearly specify that it is "unopened and sealed from the factory" (NIB).

DO NOT post in a for sale thread unless you are interested in purchasing the item, or it is your for sale thread. This includes bumping and low balling. The For Sale area is not for whoring.



The OP (and only the OP) is allowed 2 bumps per day. Again, the For Sale area is not for whoring.


No COMMERCIAL posting allowed! - The Sale Forums are for 8thcivic owners and enthusiasts to trade and sell parts among each other. All commercial posts will be deleted and user is subject to account ban! The Sale forums are not for businesses to advertise or unload goods. If you post more than one of the same item for sale that is considered selling for profit and will not be permitted here. Any company interested in advertising their goods and services at 8thcivic should go through the proper channels to do so. And, please don't sell items that are not yours. (Example: "I'm selling this for a friend of mine").

Testing Waters (TW) Threads are not allowed.


Group Buys - Group Buys are considered commercial as well and ARE NOT allowed in Sale Forums, or any other area of the site.


Post Your Price, NO Auction Type Sales! No 'Best Offer' Sales! - Running your sale like an auction is not acceptable in the Sale Forums. We find this to be a highly dishonest form of selling. There is nothing stopping the seller from telling one member he/she got a higher offer through Private Messaging or Email, when they really didn't. So in short, you must list sale prices in your sale post! No further explanation needed. If you post an auction type sale, it will be removed and you will be flagged with a warning to your account.


No eBay/Craigslist Links To Stuff You're Selling - If you are selling something on eBay/Craigslist, etc... fine. You don't need to post it here.


Rules put in place by the seller - You must have all the guidelines that pertain to the sale outlined in the first post when the thread is opened. Yet again, this is to protect both the buyer and seller from ending up in a situation that is detrimental to both parties. Changing the rules of the sale after the thread has been started will lead to an immediate thread closure. No questions asked.


No Public Bid-Wars or Price Bashing! - Show common courtesy to the person that is selling their item. Do not reply to their post in a negative manner, with "I will sell anyone the same spoiler for $20.00 or less!". If you can offer it cheaper, start your own sale post. Don't encroach on another members sale post. That is thread jacking and is a warnable offense.


"Low Balling" in the Marketplace is not allowed. - This includes comments on price, where to get it cheaper, or any inflammatory remarks.


Accepting deposits/payments - Due to complications stemming from past transactions we will not allow any transactions involving making payments, or deposits to hold an item from here on out. This is not only to protect the buyers from losing their hard-earned money in a sale gone awry, but also to protect the sellers from entering an agreement that could lead to more trouble than you possibly could’ve considered.


PayPal Policy:

If you are the seller - You must post a fixed price, and prepare to absorb the PayPal fees associated with accepting money through their site. You cannot add an additional % fee for accepting PayPal per their terms of service, and breaking this can result in your PayPal account being closed.

4.6 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

Paypal Payment Method:

If you are accepting paypal, you may not ask the buyer to send you the money as a gift. Doing so avoids paypal's fees and may or may not be against their Terms of Service Agreement. However it also removes the buyer's ability to dispute a payment if a issue arises. Sellers who are found to be doing this will lose their ability to use the Marketplace on 8thcivic.



Closing Your Thread

Users should close their sale thread when an item is sold. This will help keep things clean, and it will prevent users from clicking into threads where items have already been purchased by another member.

On the top bar of your sales thread, you will see "Thread Tools". By clicking on that, you will get a drop down menu. You will be picking "Close Thread" and then clicking "Perform Action".



After you click perform action, you will get a new screen like below:
