Merging forums...

Um, so I just got back in town yesterday and this morning I logged into 8thgencivic.com, but it brought me here. I read about the merging of the two forums, which is really weird and I still trying to adjust. But it's a great idea nonetheless. My question is, have the admins talked about merging with some of the other sites? This is one of the only 8th gen sites with a store. One of the other's has vendors, but the other few don't have anything. I also know there are quite a few members, including myself, that were migrating between all the different forums for information and conversation about our cars and life in general, but I think 8thgen and 8thcivic were the two largest to begin with. Has anyone talked to fgcoupe.com or k20civic.com about merging? k20civic.com may or may not want to, but there are only, literally, a handful a members there and they could seriously benefit from it. I also realize if any other forums were merged, the site could become overwhelmingly massive and would probably benefit from a restructuring, but there would be plenty of moderators and it would be nice if everyone could just log into one or two sites and find what they were looking for, instead of the 5 or 6 (or more) sprawled across the internet.

Thanks for your time and keep up the great work

I am haveing some "teething pains" adjusting to the new merge as well. More info here than I can digest in one sitting. If you were to merge even more forums into one, it would be too much IMO. Good work webby.

Good point. I think it's sounding like a lot of work, except with k20civic. There's really nothing over there. Not a lot of info and not a lot of members and they could benefit from it.

Teething pains. I like that. Yeah, it's different, and change is never easy. Mad props to Webby and everyone else that helped. I think this is great. Skittle, how's it feel to have two names? And with so few posts... :gaygiggle

speaking of which - skittles, PM me with the email acct you signed up with on 8thgen if you would. If you are skittleslegend on 8thgen - you used a different email address to sign up. I can merge the two acounts, but I need to know it's just from one person obviously.

As far as merging - no. No more plans for merging any other sites. FGcoupe did not want to sell or merge.

So you dislike the color scheme? The layout is almost identical to 8thgen's.

I'm confused as well. There are a few minor cosmetic differences, but this is nearly the same layout. Most forums I've been on are laid out like this actually. It just takes some getting used to. It's like the MPH/KmPH readout on the new Civic. Not everyone likes it right away, but you get used to it and learn to love it.
And I must say, unlike the "other" site, if I've had a question or concern here, it's been handled immediately.

cameron - I'll take it as a compliment and so should the mods on here.

For those that want to visit multiple forums or whatever - there are still 4 other sites that are about the 8thgen civic.
k20civic.com
fgcoupe.com
8thgencivics.com
civicforums.com

and that is leaving out forums like clubrsx.com that has a category for the new si, honda-tech.com, vtec.net, and others.

The layout and design of 8thgen was easier to use ... you have to really dig around and "look" for things on this site (which is why I seldom visited it before the merger) ... my participation will be dropping off quite a bit (I'm going to "lurker" status ).

My only suggestion (for now) as a fellow admin (newcelica.org) is the google ads at the top need to be removed or resized. IMHO they take up way to much of the screen and its quite annoying having to scroll beyond them on every single post/thread.

I suggest that you use link ads and only one row kind like you do for the sponsored links section in threads. Even if you use the standard 728x90 leaderboard it would take up a 3rd of the space and look much less cluttered.

Holy crap. I'm gone for a few minutes and I get two pages of responses lol...

I actually and very honestly prefer spending my time here at 8thcivic. That's not a butt-kiss, that's the truth. The environment here is great and so are the people. The admins and mods are here and they do they're job well.

Can you elaborate on what you're looking for? What is hiding on this site that was found easier on 8thgen? I appreciate the honesty.

this was the layout according to 8thgencivic - their site layout was like this. We tried to keep things very similar, even placement of forums so that people would not have a hard time with the move. Only a few slight changes were made with names of categories since each site had their own forum names.

signatures

Webby,

On the 8thgen site, I had a signature with my car details. I can't seem to find where I can create this on 8thcivic?!?

I see at the bottom of this page that I can show my signature with a checkbox - help!
