ads are done through google. I have no control over GM paying google to place the ads on the site. They are done by IP address location.

yes but you have control over the dimensions, the type of ads and the place on the page where you want the ads to show.

By the way, what happened to the original thread? I really wanna know, howcome it disappeared. Did the GM police ask you to remove it? what is this, the dark ages?

I have no way of stopping GM from buying ad space from google - that is what I wrote. The thread was deleted because it was 2 topics going on - one about why gm was being on the site and others about why gm sucks etc. It wasn't needed - so it was just removed. Other threads were answering the same question a few posts down.

I personally don't understand what the big deal is.. 8thcivic isn't free and it is supported by ad's such as the one that bothers you so much. It sucks, but it's easy to ingore. Just scroll right past it and enjoy all this site has to offer :)

It wasnt needed????... It wasn't NEEDED?

Do threads have to be needed???? in the Watercooler forum?????............. There are threads there about news, about people's pets, their favourite movies. Who determines they are needed, and a thread discussing car companies making crappy cars is NOT NEEDED.

Frankly, I am disgusted by the attitude here. I don't mind the ads, and I've even paid my VIP dues, mostly to help a good cause. But frankly, seeing the irresponsible and Nazi attitude from the mods here, I feel I want my money back.

absolutely revolted....

Well Moisted, I wouldn't go so far to call Webby a Nazi. I think that is going a little too far and he probably desrves an appology. We are here to enjoy and celebrate the 8thgen civic. Towards the end of the discussion I said I started to enjoy the ads - it told me GM was wasting their money.

It is disapointing that it was deleted, as I do believe the off topic section should really be left for users to discuss random things. I've seen much worse on other websites and that hasn't been deleted. Things like PIIHA or whatever that was goes a little far maybe but this was within taste.

If moisted really wants his money back maybe he should get it. But really buyer beware.... as I suggested, the idea of going VIP just to get rid of the ads is a form blackmail IMO but meh.

You're right, I was fuming a little. I apologize for that.

I still believe that it was extremely unprofessional to just remove the thread especially when it contained unanswered questions, based on the claim that it was "not needed" and other threads had addressed the issues (in that case why wasn't it moved or repointed).

And btw paying the VIP dues does not remove the ads, even though it was claimed as such in the thread by one of the mods (an example of an unanswered question. I'd like to know which "other thread" addressed this question).

Why don't you try common sense and install firefox with Adblock Plus extension?

I can't find the thread off hand, but if I remember right (and I sometimes don't) there was name calling involved. One rule that is followed very closely is that we don't allow name calling of other members. If that is all that is resulting from the thread, why keep it around? Like I said I can't remember exactly how the thread ended, but I thought it had soemthing to do with that.

I do remember that thread had served it's purpose, you mention the adds, webby said why they are there and frankly he needs money to run the website, it's not free. So he sells a space to google and they do whatever. There was no more discussion about the adds, so the thread had served it's purpose.

This isn't true. Going VIP desn't get rid of your adds, that was my fualt. I thought it did, but really it is firefox that that can get rid of them. The VIP's also have the adds, I have them to when I'm not on my computer with Firefox.

also note - I offered full refunds to you in pm and in email - you never replied. If you'd like your refund - I'm more than willing to offer it to you here as well. PM me and let me know. I'm sorry there was confusion in another thread about the ads being removed for vip. If you have more questions - pm me.
