No...it's really not. This same thing was posted on Autoweek's website. They didn't even have the right specs. The engine is the same one as the last generation Type-R.

Sorry, but no dice.

the euro type r is based on the honda fit. it has the solid rear axle and all. 2300lbs w/ 200hp = fast. iread this in my car and driver.

To be perfectly honest? Because the Americans like being comfortable. The European and Japanese are willing to sacrifice comfort for performance. Americans have to have both. No true Type-R is really going to have both. Which is why we get a compromise called the "Si". Si standing for "Sports Injected" means you get a basic car, but with a little spirit added onto it.

And I'll be damned if it ain't the best Si we've had since the CRX-Si...we don't really need the Type-R, when you think about it. Same engine, same horsepower output as the last model, lighterweight and a more aggressive suspension setup. What's that really mean to Americans? No power evolution, thinner window glass (more road noise), no A/C, no sunroof, choppy, extremely stiff ride....

....basically, we whine. Have you ever read some of the ridiculous posts people write? "Send us the Type-R with 230-250hp, plus A/C, plus a sunroof and mp3 player and a 12" subwoofer, plus interior anemities and price it around $20K."

+1. Everyone wants the Type R. I dont know about the rest of you but I like my AC and stereo. I'm sure the Type R experiene will get old after a while. The Si is a nice compromise between the narrow focus of the Type R and the utility of the Civic. I'll keep my Si thank you very much.

07 Civic Type-R heading to US?

Autoweek speculates that due to the vacuum left by the departure of the RSX, that Honda may go even more upscale and introduce a Civic Type R.

And I never noticed before, but the 3-door is smaller and looks sportier than the 5-door. The C pillar is more raked and aggressive, and the greenhouse is more sporty as well. The only thing I'd be jealous of is the EDM interior and start engine button--but aside from that I'm happy having a coupe.

No, it doesn't. Everyone was assuming that because it's based on the Fit, but TOV found different few months ago.

And uh...yeah. 200hp at 2300lb = fast. Hmm...if the Type-RR is 220-230hp @ 2300lb-2350lb, what would that equal?

Well you are alone there

I'd take one faster than a cat can lick his a$$! I'm more concerned with how a car performs than how it looks. For example I ordered a new Si and hate the wing on the back of the thing, hate it

I need AC in TX but I could definitely live without the sunroof or other amenities. As long as it had A/C I could add the other stuff I want, myself.

I wish they'd bring it but they won't.

While the rest of the world is still waiting for a high-performance Civic in the Type R, we already have the best high-performance Civic in the Si. Honda would be playing around with a very small niche market if they brought over the Type R. I'm sure Honda can't see how they would be able to make money off of it over here. If it doesn't put money in the execs' pockets, it ain't gonna happen.

Yep, Skittles hits that right on the head. I'd like a (new) G35 6MT or IS350 for under 30K...but I think that will take a few years in the used market. heh. I'd also like a house servant while we are making wishes.

Really, let's be reasonable, you get an awful lot of 'good stuff' in the Si for a hair above 20K. What else is there at that price point? (Not 2K more, not 5K more, 20K) SRT-4? Go right ahead and have fun with that.

I didn't see this thread in here, thx for merging

The thing is, what Honda could do is go upmarket for the CTR, to put it into a similar price range as the VW GTI. Put leather seats, have a 220HP engine, Xenon lamps. If it had a limited run, I think people would swipe them up pretty fast. It looks smaller than the Civic coupe, and has a much better interior IMO.

The Type-R hatch doesn't fit Acura's image, exterior or interior. If it came to the states it would likely have to be redesigned with a new look and with luxury interior and amenities which means more weight and less aggresive handling, so much for the Type R status. Plus it would compete with the Si, an "as is" version would compete even moreso. Afterall, that is one of the reasons they axed the RSX. No point in keeping it around if people will just buy the Si in droves by comparison. (Which is exactly what is happening, they can't keep them on the lots even with insane markup) I think it would make more buisness sense to just leave it at the Si. Producing and importing two veichles that are so alike doesn't make financial sense.

they can have it. I daily commute in my FG2 and I need my A/C, I like my moonroof, and I like my kidneys to remain intact over our famous philly potholes. And while I am a little biased, I think our coupes look better than that hatch. And I like hatchbacks - been a secret obsessor of the pudgy but so hot R32 for years now.

I'll second that. I overheard a conversation a few years ago at a Chevy dealership when my mom was getting her Malibu worked on. Basically, one guy was talking about how cool the "new" Corvette was. The other guy's response?

"Yeah, but it doesn't have any cup holders, and the seats just don't...fit me right."

It's a Corvette and the guy is worried about cup holders?! :gaygiggle
