It's nowhere near a "good shot", but my most recent.

I want to learn how to shoot good photos.
I sometimes shoot with a Fuji F30 which is pretty basic.
It's 6MP but I usually resize them down to 800x600 and then later post them at 500x *** size pixels for forum viewing.

First "secret" is rule of thirds.
I cannot explain it any better than Rule of Thirds can so I highly recommend you have a look at the site. I am not trying to punt you over. just giving you the best resource for the subject

once you learn that, then secret #2 will be revealed

I have heard of the rule of thirds. My buddy explained it to me before. That link you provided made a lot of sense and cleared up some things. Thank you!

I appreciate all of the new images submitted for the banner.

Unfortunately, there needs to be a new rule to help me out significantly. Anyone can feel free to keep posting up their favorite shots in large scale, but I'm now asking for people who want in the banner to please put it in the correct size. It will save me an enormous amount of time resizing and trying to get something to look decent from sometime... large files.

This is all I ask - please make your image
577x71 in size.

If you have photoshop or an image editing program, open up a new file that size and then drag your photo into that window. Then you will see what needs done to resize, or edit the image to look decent. You'll see that sometimes it's not so easy to get a great shot.

If you don't have photoshop, you can still resize to that size for me. Example - if you gave me this

I will be able to add a small fade on the left side like this

to have a finished product something like this.

if you have photoshop - you can take that step and make the fade how you'd like it to be placed and such.

psd layered template
http://www.psdnow.com/download/file/PFeRN1R86s/

Then just save the file as a jpg image and add it to this ongoing thread. Not only will this help save a lot of time for me, it'll also allow you to compose the image for the banner. Sometimes easier said than done.

I appreciate all of your help and understanding here.

Again - I'd love to still see great images put up here full scale if you have them. Just realize that they also need to be resized if you want them in the header for the site. Editing hundreds of images each update takes countless hours.

sounds good. btw, is it possible to browse the header images folder to see all the pics?
just curious (instead of refreshing 100x to see the new pics)

you'd literally have to manually change the # at the end
http://www.8thcivic.com/images/header_images/TOP455.jpg

to TOP456, 457 and so on - so technically yes. But it's not like a running list you can click on to view all.

Thanks! I was thinking along the lines of being able to view the header_images and click on the links for the pics. kinda like a parent directory
