Will any 2-way radio communicate with any other 2-way radio, or do they need to be a certain brand/type, or have the same capabilities?

If I seem to remember from last year hanging on at the Dragon(actually laying down) with the locals if you phone can be switched to analog mode you can use the cell on the dragon but it eats up the battery real quick and cost some extra $$ per minute.

any 2 way radio will work. Most have subchannels now. if yours does not have subchannels, it will still work as long as the ones with subchannels are dialed into "zero" for their subchannel. The reason I like to use the subchannels is because you will have about 100 people at any given time using the 2-ways there. Only so many base channels you can use.

When I had my Nexted i870 there was an option to use off network direct connect. It was like a real walkie talkie. My friends and I tried it out and if I talked everyone would hear it.

You had to manually select the mode though.

when you're up there PLEASE don't use the voice-activated feature! It ends up being a bunch of noise and no one car communicate clearly! Think about 25 cars hitting VTEC and the mic picks up the noise as voice and we all just hear wind rushing and car noises instead of people trying to talk!
